Definitely in!

thanks @columbiawrite do u need me to chance you?

I think you’d have a great shot from out of state, and since your from VA its basically guaranteed. Since you wanted to know how you can improve, I would say show interest so your not a victim of Tufts syndrome but UVA doesn’t care about demonstrated interest. I guess just don’t mess up the essays.

Chance me:

You’re an amazing applicant. You’re easily accepted, in my opinion. Being OOS helps loads. Best of luck! :)

Chance me back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1662008-2-8-gpa-2000-first-time-sat-urm-umass-amherst-others-ea.html#latest

@PMLAPA thanks. I have visited once and attended an event where a rep visited my HS. Also, I read somewhere posted by Dean J(an actual admin officer) that UVA does not practice yield protection so hopefully that stands to be true. I have chanced u as well. @IBAD96 Appreciate the support. I have chanced u and im actlly in-state lol, which is easier than OOS.

I usually avoid the chance me section, but I saw UVa in the title and thought I could help.

I’m not attending UVa due to financial reasons, but was accepted OOS/Echols last March (it could’ve been February–I don’t remember). Surprisingly, I think state schools (namely UNC Chapel Hill/UVa) are more holistic than everyone on the chance me threads leads you to believe. I’m 99.9999% sure I earned Echols/Honors Carolina because of my essay. My friends and people on the results threads all had lower (SAT) scores than me (note here that I’m an unhooked-ish, white, middle-class male from MD), and they were mostly rejected/waitlisted.

As an instate student, I’d say you’re accepted.

However, re: Echols: as I mentioned before, it’s extremely holistic. Nail the essay. Kill the essay. Include an extended metaphor and make it publishing worthy.

FWIW, my stats were: 15 AP’s, uwGPA: 3.93, SAT: 2120 (ouch), ECs: Strong, owned a business among numerous officer positions, but I barely touched on those in the essays.

@Vctory thanks, yeah at one of their tours the dean say they look at your app VERY holistically, so no one part can simply make or break ur ENTIRE app… congrats on owning a business btw, my ECs are allright I guess but hard to compete with THAT!

Haha thanks; it was an online business, so not completely traditional (still managed ~100 people or so). However, I didn’t really hit that too hard in my app. I really think the essay is the most important part to UVa if you have passable scores (which you do).
