I was recently accepted into both UVA’s E school, and VTech’s E school, and plan on majoring in chemical engineering. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the strengths of UVA vs VTech in this aspect. I have viewed previous threads, but none that I have found directly compare the two, which is why I am curious.
You’ll have an excellent engineering education at both, but we have different settings and atmospheres. A visit can often help you decide which place is best for you (something rankings can’t tell you).
If you wanted to go school in Boston and do engineering, would you prefer to do ChemE at Harvard or MIT? Not 100% analogous, but you should get the point.
VT being more technical produces more of the engineer type while UVa usually produces “engineering managers”. This is a broad statement with many caveats of course.
The difference between a national ranking of 41 and 31 is not significant. As long as both programs are accredited by ABET, your coursework will be essentially the same. You can safely choose based on fit and budget. Yup. It’s OK to choose the cheaper one of these two.
