Lots of posts since the last time I checked in! Have a few comments…
*I’m kind of surprised that so many are getting all of their info here and not from my blog, twitter, or instagram accounts. I’ve been giving updates about the process all season long. I’m @UVADeanJ on Twitter and Instagram and the blog is: http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/
*I hope the poster who lamented their location, gender, and ethnicity realizes that the data shows that they are extremely privileged in college admission and in life.
*When you see the number of students in a school at UVA, remember that we probably admitted double (or more) students. For example, we admitted 124 nursing applicants last year to get a class of 64 students.
*Early Action is not easier than Regular Decision. Generally, it’s a strong population, so the offer rate is a tad higher. We don’t relax our standards for EA. That does happen at some schools (often ones with ED), but not at UVA.
*The only direct entry programs at UVA are Nursing and Kinesiology. No one else was evaluated for a major or admitted into a major. You have one year to declare in Engineering and Architecture. You have two years to declare in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Some links to where you can find statistics (because there’s a lot of rumor and flat out wrong info out there):
[Admission Data from UVA’s Office of Institutional Assessment](http://ias.virginia.edu/university-stats-facts/undergraduate-admissions)
You can use the drop-downs to break the numbers up by residency, school of entry, etc. Use the tabs at the top of the chart to dig deeper into the numbers.
[State Council of Higher Ed’s Admission Data](Higher Ed Info for Virginia)
You can see admission data from ALL Virginia colleges on the tables at the bottom of this page. You can see both raw numbers of applicants and admit percentages. You can also see the data broken down by county ([chart B08 A1](B08A1: Admissions by Student Level and Student Locality)), so you can see why those rumors about it being “impossible” be admitted from one county or another are wrong. My advice: look at the raw numbers and remember that UVA doesn’t have a quota for any high school, town, county, or region in Virginia.
