UVA EA 2025 Thread

Ugh, that’s me. I say pop.

My son only drinks water so maybe that won’t be an issue and no one will notice if he winds up at UVA. Right now that seems to be leading and we visit later this week so we will see. He also has a few more schools he’s waiting to hear back from over the next 3 weeks so hoping he can start to put together a ranking of his schools including waitlists, etc.

My daughter was also deferred from EA. She goes to an Arts school as a vocal major. OOT. 13 APs, several leaderships. Perfect GPA. Great EC. She got into Michigan but still waiting for several school
Including UVA.

I wondered also about the OOS fitting in OK, but then realized on the flip side how fun it would be to surround yourself with kids that AREN’T from your area. My son is from the Midwest and has been accepted to UVA and it’s high up on the list after visiting a few weeks ago. He received the Echols Scholar invite so that is very appealing and a definite bonus. Waiting on a handful of other schools and hopefully he will decide and commit before end of April. Can’t wait to finally know where he’ll end up. It’s been a LONG 8months!

Yes absolutely! We’re from VA and my older child chose a school in the Midwest. He loves the adventure of doing something so different than his HS classmates. It all depends on the student, some want to be more like everyone and some are the complete opposite. But isn’t the college life less about “fitting in” and much more about finding one’s own personality. It’s almost easier when they don’t go to a school with HS chums everywhere on the same campus.

@Va2021app We’re from the midwest (hence the use of “pop”)

@bigs3 same situation as you, since we’re from the Midwest and my son would be going out there but, I have one kid at UT-Austin where at first she felt “everyone” was from Texas even though “only” 90% is lol and my other is at Cornell where she too even said “everyone” was from NY and I do think almost all her friends are but they adjust and don’t feel like outsiders after a bit and the friends kind of think it’s cool too.

We will hear from at least 1 school this week, maybe 3, and then the last by Ivy Day. I hope our trip this week gives some insight. Of course just our luck, it’s supposed to rain which is not good and seems to be a common thing for my family when making college visits. Still have a few days for a weather change so fingers crossed.

It rained one of the days when we were there as well. Let’s hope the weather will cooperate at least ONE day for you. My daughter is at Univ of Tampa, and she LOVES it. So much that she’s not coming home for summer :joy: can’t say I blame her. Sounds like our sons are in about the same position. Wed he’ll hear from 1-2 more and by the weekend another 1-2. One On Ivy day and then he was deferred from his dream school and final school decision which will be 4/9. :crossed_fingers:t3:…having said all that, UVA is still high on the list! Enjoy your visit.

Does anyone have a firm date when UVA will release decisions?

“By April 1st” is all we have. At this point, firm date is a mute point since we only have 7 working days left. :crossed_fingers:

Tomorrow night!!! Good luck fam no matter what this has been fun

Was kinda expecting a rejection to be honest, so I’ll live with a waitlist

Why do you think they deferred SO many, only to accept 4% of them? It’s hard to believe they would have been that far off with their numbers. They had to have known they would reject or waitlist the vast majority. I don’t understand the logic, it only strings along a large number of kids.

My son was waitlisted but offered Wise. He was considered in-state based on one parent’s residency but also in-state accepted for University of Florida with Bright Futures covering tuition so is planning to go there. He was waitlisted at VT for engineering.

Idk if you applied to georgetown, but they dont even reject anyone early. Literally everyone gets either accepted or deferred. Overall I’m thankful UVA didn’t outright reject me, but there’s at least some closure in that

Same here! OOS Echols Scholar!

Michigan does that too. They defer everyone after EA and then just string them along and are not at all transparent in their process with the exception of something like Ross that gives specific dates that they will be announcing decisions. But otherwise, their admissions process is right up there with UT-Austin, which is one I’m glad we didn’t have to deal with this year.

But the whole defer all those kids then accept only 4% is crazy. Did their data say how many of the deferred applicants were waitlisted and how many of the RD ones were? Or even how many original ED applicants were deferred then waitlisted/admitted/rejected?

After a year long wait, we finally had our visit there yesterday and wow what a beautiful school, just as everyone has said. We really liked the compactness of the engineering school and that each program has their own building. Relatively small classes also. Campus was much bigger than I expected. After asking the student that took us around about orientation I do see that my son received an email announcing that it will be virtual. That’s a bummer since it would be a great way to go back and meet people if he chooses UVA but regardless, they are still in the mix. Other than having a lot of problems getting out of there timely, looks like a great place to be and go to school!
