The posts made in 2016 was a mix of my posts I made as an overzealous sophomore or posts made by my brother (currently in college) surfing around on my account. I am currently a senior with a bit more maturity about the whole college process. But like many of the people on this forum, I was once a anxious underclassman that made a few posts (and said I was a year older than I was) to try and get some good advice.
I don’t want to create drama. I apologize if I stressed anyone out but all the information I posted on this forum in the 2018-2019 school year is accurate (stats, etc). If anyone has any questions please feel free to message me.
I apologize for dismissing you and your posts. Your comments seemed very inconsistent especially considering you had posted being accepted to several schools back in 2016. I have noticed several similar posts in the past and they turned out to be people goofing around which can cause others to be very stressed - and the process itself has enough stress. Good luck at WashU! One of my good friends from high school went there, then Berkley for her Masters and PhD… now she’s a Dean at Southwestern in Texas - WashU can take you far!
@bucketDad I agree. I think it is very careless and also selfish if a student did ED, has heard on financial aid and continues to keep applications in at other schools. Very unethical @“D.Mat1234”
@“D.Mat1234” counselor is not giving him accurate info.
Early decision info from Washington University at St. Louis reads:
“If you apply Early Decision and are admitted, you must withdraw your applications to other institutions and enroll at WashU.”
AND
“You may apply for regular admission to any additional schools you choose; however, if you are admitted to WashU, you must withdraw applications filed at other colleges and universities.”
Offers can be rescinded.
And FYI, it also says:
“Early Decision also requires that you submit your Enrollment Deposit and Acceptance Form within two weeks of receiving your letter of admission and financial aid notification.” So if he hasn’t sent in his deposit, there could be trouble.
@“D.Mat1234” if your counselor told you you didn’t need to pull your apps, he/ she was wrong . The rules are clear about ED. If your ED school knew you didn’t pull you apps they could revoke your admittance. Really ruins it for the rest of the kids that follow the rules.
The rules are clearly stated on the college board website. Under application ethics. It says nothing about being about to afford it. The schools we visited said don’t apply ED if you are relying on financial aid or merit money . My daughter applied ED, and she signed , I signed , and the counselor signed the agreement Saying we understood the rules of the agreement
Haven’t received acceptance packet here yet either. I did read somewhere on the UVA website that Echols scholars offers will be included in the packet if being offered.
@UVAmom23 While I appreciate the sentiment, I don’t think you should look at rankings to justify which colleges are good. Just because some website ranks them equal to caltech on some arbitrary measure doesn’t make it actually equal to caltech.
@brownpoodle I only applied to GT out of the 3 colleges you listed, lol.
@therealnemis you are going to be fine. My friend’s son goes to GT. He absolutely loves it! We are from Maryland and he had choices - W&M, Boston College, Villanova and GT. He chose GT and is so very happy.
my stepson goes to GT - he had lots of options, including UVA, VT, USC, Lehigh, etc. Ultimately, he looked at who had best post-college job placement success for his major. He’s computer science and will graduate a year early because he went in with so may AP credits (we’re from NoVA). GT has been fantastic for him - and yes, he already has a job lined up for after graduation.
UVA’s Jeffers Scholars Foundation does offer merit scholarships to incoming students but has a separate selection process. Information on the Jefferson Scholars program can be found at www.jeffersonscholars.org.
