I am from a rural state and applied to Brown out of high school and was rejected. I ended up matriculating to UVA with a merit scholarship but really do not like the large school feel that UVA offers. I am very interested in applying to Brown as a transfer for my Sophomore year. Does anyone know what GPA I need from fall term to have a chance? Does anyone have any advice or past experiences they can share?

My HS states in a nutshell:

#4/276 in my class with a 4.6 GPA

33 SuperScore ACT

I would like to study PreMed/Comm and am currently very involved on the UVA campus.

You will likely need almost or all straight As from the one semester at UVA, since what you had as a high school student didn’t get you in. You will also need to write essays that show that you are self directed and have gotten to a more mature place in your college path, and will particularly need to express in those essays why you feel you really belong at Brown. (both Brown being right for you, but more importantly you being right for Brown). Hopefully part of the reason Brown rejected you in the past was that they weren’t certain you were academically up to Brown, and now that you can demonstrate having done (I hope) superlatively well at UVA, they will feel more confident about you at Brown. But the “fit” is still very important.
I think if you have those, getting in as a transfer is statistically a bit better than from HS.

PS, Brown does not have a “pre-Med” or a communications study/concentration. So please, for your sake, do your Brown homework better before you write anything to Brown!!
