Middle 50th Percentile for Admitted Students 2004*

SAT I Verbal: 660-760
SAT I Math: 680-780
ACT: 30-34

Straight from the JHU website (I can link if you want); looks like a 1340-1540 to me, or an average of 1440/2160. And you can't really do "about" when giving sat scores.

Are you looking for reassurance or chances? You didn't give a sat breakdown, but I'm guessing your SAT old is a lot closer to the 25% than it is to the 75%. For that reason, JHU is a moderate reach to reach.

N.B. Colleges publish their middle 50% ranges, but that really doesn't mean much. I could have a 2100 and be in the middle 50% for Harvard, but there's no way I'm getting in. A much better indication is whether or not you are above the 50% line of admitted students.

ok, i understand that. but you said that my SATs are below avg for JHU, but I would say that they are average. i dont know, i just want a realistic prediction.

Pertaining to the whole SAT topic, the bottom line is this: YOUR SATs WILL NOT HELP YOU AT JHU. They certainly won't hurt you, but they are nothing spectacular that will "wow" the adcom. That being said, they will scrutinize other aspects of your app (i.e. essays, GPA, ECs). And the impetus for my earlier post was a lack of any Siemens or Intel research, or any outstanding ECs. Thus, they will look to your GPA and essays, since there is nothing outstanding about your ECs. While your GPA is excellent, you must understand that JHU gets hundreds of applicants with perfect UW GPAs. They don't accept all of them.

Bottom line:
Hopkins: Slight reach-Reach
UVA: Match (In state)
W and M: High match (in state)
Columbia: Reach
Harvard: No shot
Vanderbilt: Slight reach
Auburn: Safety
Tech: Safety
BU: Match-High match

I have a 600/2400 SAT
My GPA is 0.4/4.0
My class rank is 450/449
I run a drug cartel, or I will after I get out of max security
Now do I have a chance ;)

OK, my example was extreme, but there is not always a chance (less than 3% isn't a chance). It's like saying I have a chance to win the lottery. I do...but let's not kid ourselves....

Her 690s on verbal and math are right under this, and this is only the middle 50%, so it is unreasonable to call Harvard a huge stretch. It is a stretch, yes, but if her essay and personal characteristics really hit the spot for an admissions officer, then who knows what can happen. SATs are important, but you guys are putting too much weight on them. There is the human factor too. That's why Harvard isn't only made up of people who scored 2400s.

That being said, Harvard is a stretch for anyone. It may be a bigger stretch for her than it is for others, but nonetheless, that doesn't make her an unqualified applicant.

a lot of people have unrealistic expectations. the bottom 25% of Harvard are people with serious hooks (URMs, developmental cases, people who make pb and j sandwiches for dubya)...the op has none (legacy ain't gonna help too much here). Harvard rejected 94 out of every 100 in RD; those are serious odds, making for a huge stretch. It's hard to define "qualified applicant"....but the OP faces long odds.

Btw, Harvard isn't made up of people w/ a 2400, they have plenty of people with 2300s, 2200s, etc.

"people who make pb and j sandwiches for dubya" <--LOL
Heh. You're absolutely right, but I still believe that the human factor needs to be taken into account. Who knows what could happen...
