Your odds are very strong IMO. You bring a lot to the table. I’d say you are a match. Best of luck in the process! If you can, feel free to chance back at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1055573-i-know-its-early-but-chances-junior.html

Anyone else?

pleeaase? I loved the school when I visited and I am very interested in what anyone thinks my chances are.

Embarrassing 3-in-a-row. SAT IIs: 800 math II, 770 USH

I would say you have a great chance! I was accepted at UVA this year with somewhat lesser stats. You probably have a good chance for Echol’s too! Good Luck!

Thanks! Echol’s is my dream…

Pretty good stats, but UVA Business is tough. There’s a family in our school whose tradition it is to go to UVA (though the youngest daughter, after getting in this year, actually chose to go to Duke instead. Gasp! lol) and they are all incredible students.

Your GPA is just a tiny bit low, but your test scores are good, which could really help. Good luck!

Thanks! My GPA was horrible freshman year, pretty bad last year, but I should have a 3.8+ UW and a 4.7+ W this year. I heard UVA likes upward trends (as in more than other schools) does anyone know if this is the case?

GPA without context is a poor indicator. It could be outstanding for the OPs school, putting them in the top 3-5%. We don’t know.

Another factor that UVa specifically looks at is your course rigor. They want to see that you’ve taken the most rigorous course load possible, or that of top students in your school. The number of APs matters far less then did you maximize the opportunities available to you, whatever those were. Did you go beyond? Taking three APs where three are offered then seeking out a class at a cc is great. Taking three where 15 are offered is not as impressive.

Best of luck to you!

Freshman year, my courseload was slightly above average. Sophomore year it was probably top 10% (ie 10% of kids had harder courseload) and this year it was probably top 5%. My GPA this year weighted is probably around top 5%, and overall for four years will be around the top 10%. I have increased both the rigor of my courses and the grades in my courses consistently throughout HS. Also, will my subject tests help or are they pretty average for UVA? (800 math II 770 USH)

It sounds like you are making smart decisions with an eye on education, success, involvement, and admissions. You obviously know OOS is unpredictable and I don’t like to chance because of that. I think you have a lot to offer and look like you have the tools to provide a strong application to many schools, including UVa.

The party line on subject tests is ‘they can’t hurt you’. I think yours will definitely help. Good job! I wouldn’t give this part of your app a second thought.

Good luck during the process!!

Good chances, but know that you don’t apply to McIntire until your sophomore year.

@blueiguana what do you mean by “they can’t hurt you”?

@knights09 I understand that, but my application (common as well as UVA sup.) should leave no doubt as to the fact that I am trying to study business. I figure the adcoms can probably detect a Mcintire app when they see one, which probably affects decisions in some way.

I’ll look for the quote, but the in the past the admissions rep for UVa that frequents the UVa forum has encouraged kids not to put a cut off on point value on SAT subject tests. Send them, they will only help. This is in response I believe to people who want to say ‘only send scores above xxx’. I am really paraphrasing here because I don’t have the direct quote. I will look, but that is the context. I hope that helps to clarify my statement.

I doubt it affects decisions considering your admission to McIntire is based upon your college resume.

@blueiguana But if they aren’t above 700, could it hurt your chances?

I certainly know people who have been accepted with sat 2s under 700. Were they a help, a neutral, or were they admitted despite those scores? I think without the full context of the application and being a fly on the wall with the admissions rep there’s no way to tell so I’m not qualified to make that call.

@knights09 true, but don’t you think they try to get a good mix of students so that they don’t end up with a disproportionate amount of he student body trying to transfer to one school? I don’t know. . . Maybe it’s not relevant.
