I know a student who would love to be in your position and have GW for free.

Congrats on receiving such a great scholarship!

You need to sit down with your parents and run the numbers. There is a nifty tool for that at [FinAid! Financial Aid, College Scholarships and Student Loans](http://www.finaid.org). Scroll to the bottom of the first page, and click on calculators. Then scroll down on the calculator page until you find the Award Letter Comparison tools.

There are happy and unhappy students at every university and college in this country. So don’t let the nay-sayers here disturb you too much. Maxing out your student loans for an undergrad degree is not a smart thing to do if you are thinking about law school. The standard advice for pre law is to go to the cheap place, and save your debt for law school.

Did UVA award you any work study money? Did it leave anything for you and your family to pay out of pocket? Can the UVA aid be used if you take a semester abroad? Does UVA have an expected student contribution?

The GW offer is a really good one. It looks like you wouldn’t even need to find summer jobs. That means you can take interesting unpaid internships instead.

Do you have any other offers, or are these two it?

I agree with what’s been said by many…avoid debt! If GW is giving you a full ride, that’s hard to beat. UVA does not offer merit other than those few given by the alumni association (Jefferson Scholars). Given the fact you want to attend law school, I’d save your money. I think the only way I might suggest taking on some debt and choosing UVA over a full ride at GW would be if you were 100% certain you wanted to major in business and even then, I’d only recommend this if you were IS. Good luck and congrats on the scholarship!

Pick GWU, GWU is atleast equal to UVA (probably better) and it is giving you a full ride. Picking UVA would be a very foolish choice.

So the action of a single individual is a sufficient sample from which to generalize about 15,000 others? Schlaag, I think we can assume two things about you - UVA turned you down and you’re not majoring in Statistics. :)

Definitely GWU. Avoid debt at all costs, no pun intended.

George Washington isn’t too far below UVA academically, and a full ride is a very attractive option. I’d go with GW. Especially if you are going to be fulfilling pre-law requirements, GW is excellent.

Gadad: Actually, it might tell you something about their student body. When I visited UVA, many of the students were incredibly high strung and uptight. A few were downright hostile and rude. These were just my observations and maybe I met the wrong people but I never met a single friendly person.

Hi!
As a student who goes to UVa I can tell you that people here are extremely nice and polite. And I love the school, I could not imagine myself anywhere else. People are amazing, there is always something to do on grounds(campus) and the faculty really cares about the students (I am in the architecture school, I don’t know if its the same for the college of arts and sciences), and the social life is pretty big if you like partying.
However, If you got a full-ride scholarship to GW, I might go with that.

Ticlo: I do have to admit that the professors that I met were very smart and kind but the admission staff seemed to be rather unfriendly and reclusive imo.

GW is a great school, and the academic difference between the two schools is negligible. If UVA will put you into significant debt, go with GW. If you won’t have to take on much debt for UVA, go for UVA.
