Wellesley is widely recognized to have one of the best economic departments in the country. Almost a third of every class is an economics major and most of them go straight to top investment banks on Wall Street. In fact three of the top employers of Wellesley students are Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and Google. I've heard numerous recruiters for i-banks and financial firms say that they actively seek Wellesley women since we have such an incredibly solid knowledge of economics. I'm an economics major and i have been amazed at the connections that the professors have with i-banks, accouting firms etc. one graduate in 2007 is already employed by the Federal Reserve! I think it is an absolute no-brainer that you will have FAR more connections and opportunities after graduation as an economics major at Wellesley (esp because UVA will cost even mroe than Wellesley)!

I'm trying to decide between UVA and Wellesley, too, except UVA is over $15k/year cheaper for me since I'm in-state, so I would feel really guilty if I said no to UVA. I wish I were in your shoes!

I think that in your case, especially with Wellesley being cheaper, it really is a no-brainer. As a small school, you'll get more personalized attention. UVA's intro econ classes are HUGE and number in the hundreds, whereas Econ 101 classes at Wellesley usually have less than 30 students (or so I've heard). Top finance firms heavily recruit at Wellesley, AND you'll have that amazing alumnae network.

Best of luck!

I'm sorry for my ignorance, but what school is UVA?

There was an article I read online that really complimented Wellesley College's business program. Many top CEOs come from Wellesley. The article is somewhere on this forum, but I cannot find it at the moment.

I agree with roxxy, it's a no brainer. :) Wellesley is cheaper and has a very strong business program. Plus, I'm going there! That's the only reason you really need (jk).

UVA = University of Virginia. It's currently the #2 public school in the nation, right after UC Berkeley. It's ranked something like #23 among national universities, according to USNews.

And according to USNews, Wellesley is ranked #4 of all liberal arts colleges. :D
