UVA, UNC, Brown?

First off, I would really appreciate any sort of input. I am not trying to brag (I doubt I will be) as I really feel I'm on the borderline in these 3 schools. I haven't taken the SAT yet, but I have taken practice tests. I'm a junior who lives in Virginia and here's what I've got:

3.75 GPA unweighted
3 AP classes so far (3 more next year)
4 Honors classes

PSAT Math: 800
PSAT Critical Reading: 620
PSAT Writing:630 (10 essay)
(I took a few practice tests to get to this and I pray I can get an 800 in math on the real thing but I wont count on it)

Extra-Curricular:
-I have just learned I will be a captain on the varsity football team next year.
-I coach youth basketball (8th grade boys)

I am the kind of person who worries over the little stuff, but I feel I have reason to worry here. I did not even realize it until this year but I don't have many Extra-Curricular activites. I plan on coaching youth b-ball again as a senior next year and I hope to do winter and/or spring track. I did not go into NHS this year because I did not hear the due date until it was too late. I will do NHS next year along with Spanish Honors Society. If I do these things will I have a good chance at UVA, UNC, and Brown? UVA is my #1 choice as it is in-state and cheap. Anything else I should do?

Thank you in advance.

Chk out Wm & Mary. UNC-CH is tough OOS and Brown even tougher no matter what state you're from.

I heard William and Mary is really depressing and has the highest suicide rate. I definently did consider it but I dont want that atmosphere.

What about UVA, Boston College, and Wake Forest?

I forgot to mention I'm doing Leadership Honors Society this year and next year Spanish Honors Society and NHS.

How did you get an essay grade on the PSAT? There isn't even an essay portion on the test.

i took a couple practice ones, sorry not psat. It was an SAT preparation course

Can I make UVA, Boston College, Wake Forest?

Umm yea your EC's need a MAJOR improvement, I dont mean to come across as being harsh, but the EC's you have listed are very ordinary. Varsity captain is good but it is only really important if you hope to get recruited. Helping with the youth sports is nice but you need leadership positions in clubs, volunteer hours help a lot and I suggest you work those up. Plus for brown a 3.75 will be on the low end of the GPA scale. And also on the subject of brown a 2280 is a good goal to be considered. Just my 2 cents though

UVA cares A LOT about weighted gpa. My guidance counselor showed me a book of all the stats of seniors from my school who applied to UVA within the last 10 years (its my 1st choice, im from VA too) and unless you're a minority there is a dead cutoff at 4.6 (w) gpa. it was really bizzare, like as soon as it got to 4.5 and 4.4 they all said rejected..

^ Well, that depends; weighted GPAs vary drastically from school to school. For example, the valedictorian of my HS class will have a GPA of ~4.2. So likely it isn't the weighted GPA, but rather the intensity of the curriculum (as reflected by your school in the form of weighted GPAs), that makes a difference

UVA in state will help you. you have decent stats, but i dont see significant extracurricular involvements/leadership. as for UNC, your chances are decent but i dont see you getting in at brown.

mdepilot- you have recieved some bad intel on W&M. It is much more like Brown than UVirginia or UNorth Carolina. Do your homework a little deeper. If you like Brown you would be crazy as an in-stater not to look at W&M.

Thanks for the tips

is UW gpa for uva really that high?

mdepilot im from mclean too (langley or mHS? hopefully the latter cuz its cooler hehe)

It seems about right to me. The average accepted weighted GPA from MY school according to naviance is 4.28, and I go to an extremely tough high school.
