UVA Waitlist Over??

Does anyone know if UVA has completed taking from their waitlist (for OOS Arts and Sciences)?

Any updates on the waitlist status will be posted on the UVA Blog.

As of now, waitlists are still being reviewed (at least for OOS Arts&Sciences)

Hopefully there will be some notification soon. D is on pins and needles waiting and is losing steam with all of her friends settled. Unfortunately Dean J’s blog hasn’t been updated since May 6, and although I know they have so much going on, it is hard to focus on roommates, orientation, organizing flights for somewhere else when you hope you have a chance here…

Last year, my nephew got off the UVA waitlist in July.

Dean J’s blog (waitlist #2) has been updated. Still waiting . . .

Does anyone know how they notify the students? Is it by phone or email? Any guesses on when round 2 will start, based on Dean J’s blog?

From Washington Post of 5/17:

"This spring, some colleges in the Washington region have assembled waiting lists that rival the size of their incoming freshman classes, a measure of their uncertainty at a volatile time in higher education.

"The University of Virginia has offered admission to 6,900 students and wait-listed 3,750, a group large enough to fill the 3,240 spots for the Class of 2014…

"‘Sometimes, frankly, it’s just hard to say no to so many great kids,’ said Greg Roberts, dean of admission at U-Va…

"William and Mary’s list is longer than last year’s by 142 students. Wait lists at U-Va. and Virginia Tech are shorter. At Georgetown and U-Md., they are about the same length…

“Will some students on the wait list get in? Perhaps. Georgetown admitted 175 wait-listed students last year; U-Va., 288.”

mom3kids: My friend’s son was wait listed at UVA and accepted a spot at VT (we are in state). A lady in the admission’s office left a message on their answering machine on a Friday afternoon. My friend had to wait until Monday to make the call and find out the details and to tell the admission’s office that her son was still interested in UVA. Within 24 hours of calling UVA, the offer showed up in the UVA portal and this boy accepted. I believe he was given one week from the original message to accept or decline the offer.

I just was accepted off the waitlist yesterday!
They called me with the good news. I got rejected from Georgetowns waitlist with a letter

We call. If we can’t get anyone on the phone, we’ll email, but we try to actually talk to students to make the offer verbally. Officially, the offer is made through SIS, but we realize that we need to give people a heads up to go look at it. :)

There aren’t official “rounds”. That’s just a term I was using because we have to make offers, then sit and wait for the students to reply. Obviously, we hope that people who aren’t interested will take themselves off the waitlist via the SIS, but there are some still on there who are going to turn us down. Then we can make more offers to another group of students.

It sort of works like a ferris wheel. There’s stopping and starting, people getting off and people getting on. There will be a point where all the cars are filled and then we’ll be done.
