UVM Class of 2021 Admissions

@xaviermom2017 thanks! We will be there about a week after you and my S is really hoping it will be all white. lol.

@eandesmom Penny Cluse is a great breakfast/brunch/lunch spot, just off Church St. I highly recommend the “bucket-o-spuds”. I second Single Pebble…really nice Asian food. If you like Italian, I recommend Pascolo, right on Church St. We had a lovely outdoor dinner there last July, which obvs won’t be happening in Feb, but the food was delicious. Further off Church St, for a funky place I really liked Duino Duende, which also has live music etc. The volcano fries were weird and yummy. Myer’s Bagels has really good breakfast and lunch bagel sandwiches. You should Google all the places people recommend and see what appeals.

Farmhouse! That plus walking along Church Street…then walking back to campus…is what put the school on my S’s list.

Has anyone attended/scheduled a student admit day yet?

None of the days work for us but one of the admitted student info sessions does, as does a college specific tour and the school is being great about trying to schedule some faculty meetings.

We are attending Admitted Student Day on March 24. This is her first choice but we haven’t sent in the deposit yet.

we are attending on March 24.

How about you?

@CTRNMom we are attending February 17th. I have been to the campus before for lax with my daughter but never toured. My S has never been to the campus. We are looking forward to visiting. We are from CT too. He also really likes New Hampshire. It wasn’t even an option at first but once he visited (safety school) he really really liked it! We are also visiting Providence College this weekend. Waiting on Penn State, Clemson, VATech and NCS. I think it will come down to VT, NH and Providence. He is undecided on a major. Likes sciences and computers. He is going to start with an exploratory program before committing to a particular major. My friend’s daughter just graduated - major journalism - and LOVED it! She was a Sacred Heart graduate - equestrian. It is a little bit of a drive in comparison to Providence and UNewHampshire but we definitely look forward to comparing these Northeast schools.

S and I are attending on Feb 24. He is leaning toward UVM as a first choice. @xaviermom2017, I am interested to hear after you visit what your S thought of UVM compared to UNH.

@elise303 I’m curious to hear his opinion too! We are going with another friend whose son also really likes UNH. Two different kids - my son is more of an A-B+ student, lacrosse player, takes AP environmental science and Honors Bio - likes sciences and computers but really undecided at this point in terms of a major. He is really looking for school spirit and activity, with sports as a preference. This is where I think UNH might edge above UVM because they have a football team and hockey team and a club lacrosse team that competes D1  His friend is an A-A+ student, really hits the books, non-high school athlete - some rec., very interested in math, tech and computer information systems and definitely looking into careers focused in those areas. It will be interesting to see how each of them compares the schools. They do share a few schools of interest (UNH, Providence and Loyola) despite their differences. I think it’s because they both went to very similar grammar schools - small Catholic- and same HS. I’m also excited to get inside the academic buildings. I will definitely post our thoughts

@xaviermom2017 My daughter is coming from a small private school in the New Haven area. She wanted a BIG school. She applied to IU, Maryland, UF, Syracuse all for journalism. She wants to go to law school. She also applied to QU-very close to home for her safety, Hofstra, Ithaca also for journalism. She applied to UVM and UConn for business. She spent a day at UConn for their Husky for a Day program and didn’t like the classes. She attended an upper level business class with 150 kids who paid no attention to the TA and were in and out of the room the whole class.

We visited UVM on November 10, right after she was accepted, and she immediately fell in love. Large beautiful campus, Greek life, field hockey club sport, and many Jewish students. We got a private tour with one of the academic advisors at the Grossman School of Business. The incoming class will be 250 max! The building is getting a revocation next year do to a $20 million dollar donation from Steve Grossman, an alum.

There is also a brand new freshman dorm being built that will open form our kids. It’s on the academic side of campus and will have a bridge connecting to the library. She has decided even though she still has not received word from UF, UConn, and Syracuse.

The presidential scholarship helps with the price and let me tell you, the ride to Burlington is SO much better than going anywhere south of New Haven. Our trips to Hofstra, 100 miles away, was taking us 3 hours each way no matter what time or day we went.

I can’t wait to hear how the visit goes. March 24 will be the first time my husband sees the campus but I’m convinced he will love it also.

@CTRNMom same, small private school for my S too. Only 207 in graduating class - all boys. He wouldn’t consider UCONN. We went there and he immediately wanted to leave. He also didn’t like Syracuse at all. He was very disappointed with the area and the hills and just the whole campus actually. His first choice was Maryland but he didn’t get in :frowning: His SAT scores killed him I’m sure. I can’t wait to go to UVM. I think he is going to really love it! I’m pretty sure it will be either there or New Hampshire at this point! Glad to hear your D wants to go to law school! Happy to answer any questions you have on that issue
Have a great night!

@xaviermom2017 my D’s graduating class has only 67 kids. She can’t wait to get out! She sunset get into Maryland either!!! Craziness and it her her SATs also. If she had gotten over 1300 it would have been a game changer. Only her ego is hurt by not getting in. I am sure your S will LOVE UVM. We went up a day early and explored Burlington and the surrounding area. It really helped to seal the deal. If he attends, maybe we can carpool! Lol

@CTRNMom I will definitely let you know! Two weeks

My S attended the reception for accepted students in NYC last week, on Feb. 1. Right now UVM is one of his top schools. He has eliminated Maine, UNH, Rutgers, Marist and Boulder. Still considering U of Utah and UVM while he waits to hear from a few LACs in March. We anticipate going to UVM on 3/24 and going to Utah for the ASV on 4/8.

@LuisaL, S will also be at the accepted students day on 3/24. Curious why UVM over UNH. My S accepted to both, but will wants UVM so we won’t see UNH. S wanted to attend the NYC day, but has a rehearsal he couldn’t miss. Must have been really good if your S is still likely picking it as a first choice.

@OnEdge2021 It is tough to compare Durham and Burlington. Durham is nice, Burlington is majestic. My son is a dedicated skier and the proximity to good hills is better in Burlington.

Anyone waiting for a decision today? I believe the regular admissions decision date was 2/9. The portal hasn’t changed for me yet.

@lucky978 I called them and they said that we should know between 4:30 and 5 tonight and the people who do not hear are in the batch coming out on March 10th.

I’m hoping to hear today! Is it random whether you find out today or in March?
