That’s what it looked like, thanks for confirming!
Doh! D17 is going next Friday, not today! @xaviermom2017 I hope you’ll report back on your impressions!
Hi all! So, we just got home from our student admit visit. I promised a review so here we go! UVM still looks beautiful even with the sprawling lawns covered with a foot of snow, no leaves on the trees and on-going construction. The new STEM building is almost done and looks magnificent! Burlington was just as quaintly buzzing as it was in the summer, even with the snow coming down. Overall, it was a very nice visit. Faculty and students were friendly and eager to assist prospective students and their families. The environment was definitely welcoming. My S and his friend liked it very much. This one is staying on my S’s list. We are waiting on a few more regular decisions before taking an in depth look at the schools that have stayed on his list. This has been a very long process. Unfortunately, his first number 1 was a denial and about 5 were tied for a backup. Glad to see UVM survived the chopping block!
My son was deferred and still waiting. He has a 1370 and a GPA of 3.0. My fingernails are gone.
@snglmama3, wishing your S good thoughts in terms an acceptance to UVM. I think that with those stats things will go his way.
- Admission Decision: Accepted
- Date of Submission of Application: Jan. 14
- Date of Decision Notification: Jan. 23rd
- OOS: Arizona
- School/Department/Major applied to: Grossman School of Business
- Applicant Stats (GPA, Test Scores, Other) 3.58 weighted, 23 ACT (yikes) - Took many honors and 1 AP class. Private/Catholic college prep high school. High school does not rank either.
- Any other helpful info: Varsity Track Captain - will be a student-athlete at Vermont, also won many awards in the Southern Arizona area for my photography.
In terms of the merit aid scholarships, do you find out if you received a scholarship upon admission release, or with the financial aid award? My test scores are very low compared to most people on this forum, but I did the net price calculator and it said that I qualify for the trustees? I know that the criteria changes every year based on the applicant pool, but I was wondering if any of the applicants on here received their merit aid info upon admission decision release or with their financial aid award release?
@wj400m – my daughter’s merit scholarship came after the admission notification (a couple weeks I think?). Showed up on portal followed by a letter. However, she did not apply for financial aid and also applied EA so maybe they notify differently later in the application cycle. Good luck!
We have just finished up our visit. Burlington is absolutely charming (but that wind is cold!) and overall we both liked UVM very much. We were very very impressed with Rubenstein and what it has to offer for S. It is staying on the list and if cost wasn’t an issue, might well be the top choice (though we have 3 other schools to visit this week). Cost aside, the only true negative S really found was the lack of diversity.
@wj400m My S’s scholarship showed on the portal within a day of notification (EA, Dec notification) I think but the FA award was just a week or so ago.
@eandesmom, We also visited UVM last weekend. S also will be at Rubenstein. He is definitely attending at this point. Will pay deposit fee this evening. Did not hear back from other schools, but he doesn’t care as this, we had a hunch was a first choice and after last weekend was solidified.
@eandesmom it is a beautiful campus … and COLD! What other campuses are you visiting? We are heading to VT to get a feel for a large southern school with a ton of school spirit in the athletic dept. and of course, a focus on computer tech and sciences. We should be in a position to make a decision soon. So many great choices. I think it will come down to campus feel and comfort at this point, although I do have my favorites in terms of programs. Unfortunately, I don’t think either of my favorites will pull through in the end. We shall see! Thanks for posting about your visit!
Got 39.360 ucd scholarhip from Vermont yey!!!
- Admission Decision: Accepted
- Date of Submission of Application: late December
- Date of Decision Notification: Early February
- OOS: Massachusetts
- School/Department/Major applied to: College of Nursing
- Applicant Stats (GPA, Test Scores, Other): 3.6, 1230 SAT

- Any other helpful info: I'm a guy, not sure if that helped. Received a letter with a nice merit scholarship award (60K over 4 years) shortly after acceptance letter. I have worked in a surgery office for vacations and summers for a bunch of years. My parents are insisting that I wait until April 1st decisions come out to decide where to go, but I could sign up for UVM today, it's at the top of my list right now.
Just got in. When do we receive financial aid stuff?
@greenteen17 How were you notified?
@jonahma They emailed me saying I was accepted (strangely, it came under promotions) and it also said it on my portal.
@jonahma Did you get your decision?
got accepted as a spring start but im completely ok with knowing that i still get to go to my top school
Congratulations @chuckiem! Like I told my son, whatever gets him into the U of his choice is fine! UVM is a spectacular campus and great academics! Best of luck!
@xaviermom2017 thank you!! I hope your son ends up where he wan’ts to be as well!!
Just put my deposit down! College of Nursing and Health Sciences. See everyone on campus!
