UVM Deferral advice

I got a letter saying that my VIP application to UVM has been deferred to regular decision in March. If I ask my guidance counselor to send in more recent grades (I am doing very well this year compared to other years - shows improvement) and tell them that I am the Foreign Language Student of the Month, do I have a chance of getting accepted? Or should I just give up?

UVM is my first choice because many people have told me that they love it there and I really want to get accepted. I love snow and I want to learn how to ski. I also want to participate in their equestrian club/team. If I send them a letter about why I want to go to UVM, are these good things to include? How long should the letter be?
I also read on this site that 2-3 years ago, they deferred a lot of people. Is this still true? Do I still have hope?

My Stats:
GPA: 2.958
QPA: 4.117
Class Rank: Top 50%
1 AP course this year, Honors Spanish IV and Academic French I this year (A's in both)
Intended major: Modern Languages (Spanish Language and Literature)
I also have extra curricular activities such as horseback riding on an IEA team, copius amounts of volunteer work, camp couselor, etc.
I am also in the Spanish Honors Society.

Thanks for your help! :)

Don’t bother with this letter. Colleges don’t pick students on how much they want to go there, and its safe to assume that almost all the other applicants have reasons for really really wanting to get in too.

What can make a difference is letting them know about any subsequent honors or awards you have received since you applied, a significant uptick in your grades, etc.

As for how many they deferred, can’t you find this on their website?

My sister goes to UVM - It really isn’t hard to get in to.

Have a teacher send a recommendation or letter on your behalf. That works for waitlisted kids too. Good luck! You still have a chance.
