UVM or CUNY Baruch College for Business?

Hi. I'm a freshman at University of Vermont and I major in business administration with concentration in finance and business analytics with a minor in Computer Science. I am dual US citizen that spent my whole life in Europe before coming here to the U.S. I picked UVM primarily because of its relatively high reputation in national rankings and most importantly a great scholarship and financial aid package. I really like this place, and since I love skiing and hiking it's a great place to pursue those interests. On the other hand there are some disadvantages so far: I don't have any real friends here and I don't feel like I am fully involved in the campus activities besides playing intramural and basketball club. It also seems like the business school here isn't so great in terms of future connections and networking with employers.

I am used to living in a big city back home and I'm still getting used to living in such a small town. The biggest challenge for me is the language barrier. Even though I speak almost fluent english I luck in knowledge of american slang etc and therefore it's hard to make new american friends here. There are very few international students here and we don't hang out together cause I live on the other side of the campus.

Taking my family's situation into consideration there is only one school I could be able to transfer to: Baruch College in New York City. I'd love to live in a big city again and in addition I like its multicultural both student body and population of the city. I also have a lot of relatives in the area. I'd have no problem adjusting to that completely different college lifestyle, which is btw almost the same as in Europe (Commuting to school etc). I will pay almost the same amount of money there as here at UVM so the only real question is: Should I apply for transfer? Is Baruch College more respected in terms of business that UVM is? Is it worth it if I plan on working in the business field in the future?

My first-semester GPA at UVM will be around 3.7 - 4.0 depending on the final exams' grades.

anyone?

for what it’s worth, my friend goes to baruch for business and loves it. baruch is also EXTREMELY well respected, especially in NYC… definitely far more than UVM is

@flyingbison7 Do you think it would be easy to transition into Baruch College lifestyle as an out-of-state student?

I think you should give uvm a little bit more time before transferring. The city has a lot to offer but skiing and the nature are not. You should try to make friends by joining different clubs that may interest you. Perhaps ski racing team? Most of my best friends are from skiing.

You are atypical freshman remorse, don’t fall for that.

Btw
You will lose all those scholarships if you transfer as FA is mostly for freshman only. Baruch is not known for generous FA.

New York Resident here, have visited Baruch plenty of times. Just wanted to let you know that it’s not a typical college settings. The Baruch dorms are across the city, and I think the CitiTower dorms (that any CUNY student has access to) are on a different area too, but a majority would be commuter students. That’s just in reference to your statement of not having many friends. It might cause a bit of a barrier of making some more friends.

But it’s very respected and they have great internships, etc.
