For the UW app, it asks for our income for the year that is most recently completed so should I use 2011 and 2010's numbers? I also clicked the question mark and it says to estimate for the current year if necessary. So do I put 2012 and 2011 or 2011 and 2010? Thanks! :)

I would just use 2011. FAFSA will be using 2011, so just to make things more comparable I would choose the previous year.

Well FAFSA forms arent due until 2013, so should I use 2012?

Ooops, right. Yes, 2012 then. If you can estimate your income.

Ok, thanks!

So when I write my income, do I use the adjusted gross income or the total gross income before any deductions? It’s the last column of the first page on the IRS 1040 form. If you could tell me which one to put down for UW or UC that’d be appreciated. Thanks!

I used 2011 and 2010, and used before deductions because they didn’t specifically ask for adjusted. I wish they had though, my family’s income is significantly less when you use adjusted because there are mandatory retirement deductions and such.

I don’t think it matters too much really. Assuming it’s in the ballpark. I mean, our income was *,161 and I put it as *,000. They’re not going to deny you for estimating :)

so do you think it would be ok for me to use the adjusted gross income?

Is there a large difference between the two? Like I said before, I just used gross because they didn’t specifically ask for adjusted. If you’re really not sure which route to take, just shoot them an email ;)
