So I know the University of Washington's Direct admission for Engineering is very competitive.

And i know when you're accepted as a Direct Admit, you get to start your engineering major as a freshman.

However, I'm confused in ... When you apply for engineering in the "regular" way (during juinro year after prereq's), you have 2 years to receive a bachelor in engineering.

So if you're a direct admit, do you finish undergrad/bachelors in 2 years?

If not .... what is the benefit of direct admission?

You will still need to meet the 180 credit requirement in order to graduate, so you’ll still need 4 years (unless you came in with a lot of college credits).

The benefit is that you’ll be able to take more courses relevant to your major, not have to worry about your grades in the prerequisite courses being high enough for the admissions committee, not have to take courses that are prerequisites for a backup major, not have to stress out about the application process, and you’ll have much more leeway in spreading out the courses taken per quarter based on their supposed difficulty level. Those are some benefits that I could think of off the top of my head, but there’s also more. In a nutshell, you won’t have to experience some of the stress that non direct admits go through and you’ll greatly reduce the amount of courses that are either unnecessary or that you don’t want to take.

Adding onto ZeroShadowBlade, as a direct admit, you have full access to the department building (usually) 24/7, have access to ‘major students only’ perks, such as advising office hours, an early head start with taking courses (networking with profs?), research opportunities, internship opportunities, and just networking/making friends with other people in that department.
