Almost everyone at my son’s large public high school in IL were deferred…do you think they even read their applications or just knew they couldn’t get to them and deferred them as a group? seems like every school is deferring so many kids that it’s not like the schools really like them all, they just need more time to actually read their apps??
Same for my daughter in NJ everyone deferred. No acceptances
D22 was deferred (they asked for mid-year grades). We’re OOS (IL, Chicago area). 1410 SAT / 31 ACT, 3.5uw/4.5w, etc.
She likes Madison, and if it was an admit it would be hard to pass up UW for CS. But she was directly admitted into CS at a few other schools and I’m not sure it’s worth the wait for her to continue. We’ll see. She has a few days to think about it.
OOS D22 admitted to L&S (Philosophy major)
3.99 UW/1490 SAT
1 varsity sport, good long term ECs, she writes strong essays
she has family ties to WI but other admits she’s excited about too…hard decision!
Decisions did come out last night. No fiction here! Good news, our son accepted OOS direct business.
We’re in NJ. My daughter finally checked her email this morning and was accepted. Don’t know about anyone else at our HS.
Lots on NJ parents. Is Wisconsin more popular than Penn State?
deferred. all friends deferred too. same big high school. all great grades and rigor and ec’s. we are in WA state. looking at other stats, it doesn’t make sense. but everyone will land where they are supposed to!!
One common thing I’ve noticed, students who did not report act or sat = deferred. Wonder if test optional plate s factor. They wanted high test scores. Bc they know those students will be successful?
A high test score is another data point the school has to assess that students candidacy. So to me it makes sense that without a test score, the other stats would have to be very high.
daughter accepted- test optional- out of state. high gpa and lots of good ECs I have seen many TO acceptances to UW. not sure if the fact that she attended some virtual events and did a lot of research on programs at UW for her essay was the deciding factor.
She has deferrals from some of her other top choices, so I totally get how frustrating it is. I think some of the TO deferrals have to do with the fact that an AO would have to take more time to analyze the application b/c there is not an immediate test score to point to-does that make sense?
The past few years at our NJ high school, 6 graduating seniors go to Penn State while 2 or 3 go to Wisconsin. Michigan is very popular.

DS admitted CoE. OOS (CA). His stats are nowhere near the amazing numbers and ECs on this thread … I honestly don’t know how he got in.
