UW Madison Early Action for Fall 2022 Admission

Congrats!

Stats, while important, are not the only things that matter. Clearly, the application readers liked something about him.

My son got accepted into Data Science and we are in Seattle, WA area.

My daughter didn’t submit test scores and was accepted.

Thank you! He’s very excited about Wisconsin and, in turn, my spouse and I are very excited for him.

Completely forgot about UW decisions until a couple of minutes ago. I got admitted into CS

Son reported. 33 ACT (not superscore), 3.8 GPA (with explanation for lower GPA), with strong rigor, many APs. Deferred (MN).

I’m wondering how many people reading this are from Wisconsin? If so, how did the EA go for your son/daughter’s and their classmates? My S22 goes to a large, well respected public Wisconsin school. Of the 20 or so kids that we know, 4-5 were accepted. I don’t have stats, but all very competitive for a state school. S22 deferred with ACT of 30, 5 APs. 3.8 GPA, varsity sports etc. Others deferred with 4.0 and no test. Yes, it’s not the same as some of the very impressive stats of those listed above, but it feels like the state University was rather hard on the WI students (and from the notes above even harder on Minnesota!) Anyone else have unofficial information on other state high schools? I’m hoping the large number of deferrals simply means that they have yet to really evaluate the extraordinarily large number of IS applicants.

My daughter did not submit test scores and was admitted. 4.983 GPA, lots of EC, awards, speech & debate, sports, etc. OOS

Admitted OOS (OK). L&S International Studies. 4.1 GPA, 30 ACT. Lots of sports, EC, blah, blah, blah.
Is there a disproportionately large amount of people that applied to ES on this forum?

I meant CS!

We are OOS and everyone so far from my daughters HS was deferred

DD accepted pre-business from a Catholic high school in Milwaukee. 4.1 Weighted, no tests. Lots of ecc, two varsity sports, NHS, full time summer work and part-time school year work. 4AP, 2 Honors classes.

Two classmates I know of got in, similar stats. Not sure how many total applied

Same stats here in state and deferred. Very interesting!

DS accepted OOS (California) for L&S. Applied to BS CS.

CS is general admit in UW-Madison (as in student is admitted into major only after completing pre-requisites in Year 1).

Any thoughts on quality of CS education at UW? I hear that classes could be over-crowded and often you may not get them because of a long waitlist? How do the career opportunities contrast with say Purdue or GA Tech?

Thank you!

Anyone know the adv/disadvantages of being accepted pre business vs. direct to business school? OOS Son accepted pre-business.

It sounds like those who are admitted to L&S as Pre-Business need to apply for admission to the business school the spring of their freshman year.

Son deferred. MN. 1480 SAT. 3.85 UW. 7 AP and 12 honors classes. Eagle scout. Multi-sport varsity athlete. Strong background in community service. Pretty good essays.

Pre business has to apply to business and I believe you only get one application chance and then your done. Not a sure thing at all very difficult and I know many who have had to change their major because they have not been admitted into business. Call admissions and make sure you fully understand the options!
