About:
Hello, I’m currently a community college student in Minnesota, I have a 3.2 GPA with a 3.5 technical GPA. I plan on applying to UW-Madison and UMN Twin Cities for either economics, computer science, or industrial engineering.
Questions:
Is it worth it applying to UW-Madison, or should I go to UMN. If accepted to UW-Madison is it worth the cost? Could I get into the engineering college at Madison or could I only get into the liberal arts college. Does UMN Engineering have a good reputation? And finally, what’s the reputation of UW-Madison, I want to eventually get into investment banking, is UW-Madison good enough for that? Thank you so much!
Both great schools. I went to Minnesota for my MBA, but for undergraduate, I prefer the campus environment in Madison. For two years for a Minnesota resident, Wisconsin isn’t any more than Minnesota tuition in state, right?
Why are you getting an engineering degree to go into investment banking? Wouldn’t a finance degree be more appropriate?
Both are amazing schools. If you want to get into investment banking, Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota would be a great place for you. Considering only your gpa, it may be difficult to get into engineering or business programs at both UMN and UW-M. You would have better chances if you apply to liberal arts. However, you can always put liberal arts as your second option on applications. If you have good extracurriculars, test scores, essays or letter of recommendations, that’ll improve your chances. If you are in-state, that’ll improve your chances slightly as well.
UMN has a great engineering reputation, especially for a public school. However it may be difficult to get in with your gpa. Of course there are other factor that weigh in on your decision so I truly hope you get in!
