I am a sophomore at UW-Madison and am double majoring in Finance, Investment, and Banking and Economics. My GPA is a 3.8+ and I am in the Christians in Business, Finance and Investment Society, and the Society of Personal Investment. I also have a part-time office job and play intramural sports. I was just wondering, since UW-Madison is not as highly regarded as most Ivy Leauge schools to BBs on Wall Street, what are the chances of me getting into a BB as an intern before my senior year and as a full-time analyst after graduation. I am mostly interested in the Trading side of I-banking. Thanks alot

Hard to say--but I'm guessing that you may have to arrange to visit the firms on your own, since they are unlikely to do much recruiting in Madison. As long as you do this--and you have taken the classes relating to IB, and show your interest in the field, then you certainly have a good chance to break into the field with your strong GPA and coming from a top-rated business school.

i have met i bankers from UW madison, but no traders. You look hard enough, you will find an investment club that was created by a former UWM alum who has been going their to recruit for the last 2 years. I dont remember the exact name, but it is there. Nearly all members (you have to be accepted into the club after review of your resume) have gone into various ibanks.

Firms do recruit from Madison, look into, i am not 100% on which ones, but CS and Banc of America Securities definetly come by, hell if bain comes, you know a few of the larger banks should be coming as well.

Even at a target school the competition will be fierce. Out of 175 from Wharton who interned with GS only about 20 were hired later. There are other good jobs out there like being an analyst for a large mutual fund. Pays well and less stress. Lots of UW grads go into that area.

I wouldn't really mind the stress of Wall Street, I think. I love pressure and performing under it. I feel WS would be a good place for me because of that which is why I'm trying so hard to get there.

That statistic about Wharton is very misleading, I would guess that the majority who didn't get hired leveraged their internship into a position at KKR, BS, M/B/B or any number of other firms.
