UW Madison vs Emory University v UMichigan

I’m in a pretty sticky situation.

I’m stuck deciding between UW Madison, Emory University, and UMichigan. I’m pretty sure I want to go into business, however, I was admitted into their letters and sciences colleges, so I’ll have to transfer into their business programs. If I choose to attend Michigan it’s risky because there I have the lowest chance of being accepted into the business program.

I applied ED to Emory, but they have given me the ability to rescind my application with no consequence by November 15. I originally applied ED to emory to keep all 3 of my choices in play (because I probs wont get into emory rd but I have a higher chance ED), but I don’t feel being binded to emory is making me the happiest. I love all three of these schools equally so I am considering moving my Emory app from ED to RD, but it would rule emory out which I’m not sure I’d be that happy with.

I like the smaller class sizes/more ability to get to know professors at Emory but I like the campus atmosphere/sports at UW and Umich better.

Money isn’t an issue. I’m from Madison, Wisconsin. My stats are in the 75th percentile at each school and I have superb extracurriculars, essays, and recs.

I’ve always seen myself at UW Madison and UMichigan (because family has gone there and I’ve been there for sports games a lot and it’s more classic college feel), but Emory may provide me more academic/career/internship opportunites.

Which one do you think I should go to for business? Will they all provide the same career/internship opportunities? Is student life better at one over the others? What have you heard from students who went to these schools? Let me know any thoughts you have. Thank you so much!

I think you are putting the cart before the horse and should wait to see where you have acceptances. If you get in to all three, do some accepted student day visits.

@momofsenior1 I applied ED to Emory (because I can really only have a chance of getting into Emory through ED because RD is a crapshoot), but I’m not sure if this was the right choice because I also love UMichigan and UW. Emory has given me until Nov 15 to move my ED application to RD with no consequence. What should I do? Do I move Emory from ED to RD, or keep it. **Read 2nd paragraph in orgiginal post

Are you sure money is NO object? The difference in cost between Emory and in-state at UW is huge.

@cshell2 I am very fortunate that money is not a factor I need to consider heavily. It’s obviously nice not having to pay as much, but it isn’t a factor

Can you move the Emory ED1 to ED2? It decreases your odds a bit, but there still is a realistic shot there. It would give you longer to make up your mind.

My two cents is that you are deciding for social reasons to go to UW-M, but UW-M still is a very good school. My son got into Emory as ED1 and also got into Indiana (Kelley School of Business), UW-M School of Business, U of Miami business, and Tulane. It was purely an academic decision. Of course, the weather and the beautiful Emory campus are a huge plus. He’s a huge sports fan, but placed zero value on that aspect of going to college. You have to separate that . . . unless you don’t.

If you aren’t 100% sure about Emory, I would move the application to at least EDII or not RD.

^^^^This is the correct answer. Only apply ED is you are 100% sure you want to attend Emory, it sounds like you have a lot of uncertainty. Wait for all acceptances and then revisit those colleges, I’m sure one will “speak to you”.
