I’m OOS at both schools so tuition will be about the same for either one. I have earned a small scholarship at UW Madison so it will cost slightly less but that won’t be a major factor in my decision. I’m mainly concerned with how these schools compare in chemical engineering and what the social life will be like. I’ve heard a lot of negative things about Tech’s social life and I was wondering how much of that is true.
I’d say UW Madison simply because of its prestigious engineering program and a great under grad experience in general. Although Georgia Tech is just as prestigious too, but you might not enjoy as much there.
UW known especially for chem E, you have small scholarship, great social scene in a great college town. Unless you can’t stand the cold, that’s a good pick. But there are individual college forums here, post to GT forum and ask. It depends on what you like for social life I guess.
Compared to Wisconsin, Georgia Tech’s social life isn’t as enriching or appealing. And chemical engineering does have an edge at Wisconsin, as well as excellent industry ties specifically for Chem E.
For other engineering disciplines I might recommend Georgia Tech for an edge, but not Chem E.
I would also ask myself how devoted your are to Chem E. Many students reconsider their specialization after a year or two. That might affect your decision too. GT is more well rounded in other areas. I’d also ask myself where I want to live for the next 4 years… large or small city? The Madison campus is beautiful and situated on a large lake, with lots of social activities. Also, male-female ratio is about UWM 50/50, GT is 60/40 .
