UW NetID

"Several weeks after the application deadline, we will invite you to set up a UW online account where you can see information about your application. This account is called a UW NetID."

I was wondering if anybody has received anything yet?

I have not received anything yet either. I think we are fine

Yeah, I haven’t heard anything about that yet as well.

Just some advice – choose this ID carefully. If you end up at UW, you will use it constantly and all of your professors and classmates will see what it is. DO NOT pick something like sexyprincess for your netID.

I know a lot of you younger kids don’t realize this yet…but this should also apply to your gmail account.

When I was a hiring manager, first thing I do is run the persons resume through word. If my word catches the spelling errors…this shows the person can’t even be bothered to click “check spelling” before sending it off…so their resume went into the trash. (Hey I’m a horrible speller, but I always run spell check)

The NEXT thing I looked at was at was their email address…if it was something inappropriate (sexyprincess@…, 420dude@…), it shows immaturity, and those resumes would usually go in the trash.

Always use some variation of your name for your email account(s). This is non-negotiable for applying for jobs in the real world.

Something related to my last post…but not to the original post:

I just remembered a resume I got once where it had someone’s name and underneath it said, “Put your address here”. Apparently he didn’t fill in that part of a template he was using.

That resume got sent around the office for a good laugh. Make sure to check and double check everything before sending.

I’d like to echo travelgirl’s post.

Also, the max length is 8 characters (perfect for my last name, I found)

Most students choose something along the lines of:
-their last name
-their first initial, last name
-their first name, if unique enough
-their initials and birth year
-their very rated G nickname (think sheri@ from sherilyn or something like that)
