Hey,
I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this. I was wondering if anyone got their Navy ROTC scholarship decisions. I complete my app in October. My Battalion commander based in Denver selected me for immediate selection. It's January and I still haven't heard from them. I did receive a Harvard early acceptance. And emailed them that. No word from CNET. Army and Air Force do it by school battalion and have been in touch with me. I passed a DODMERB physical in December, but the reply listed my qualification for the Army so I guess they were the service who requested it.

Based on earlier posts on this site there was a 'surge' of decisions in early October. I think someone mentioned that the next set of decisions occurs in March although other information I've read indicates that they do a rolling acceptance and meet every two weeks! If they are making decisions, I have not heard that any one has received anything since October!

I checked my online status Friday I've been checking everyday.) and received a 4-yr option to VMI. I think your status is updated every week (if there's something new to go on it.).

My son received word on Friday (1/19) that he received a NROTC schlorship to Virginia Tech. We live in Virginia

Yes, my son was awarded in Oct, when allegedly they awarded 25 or so. They'd cancelled meetings in Aug, Sept. Seems like the log jam maybe breaking loose?

Congrats to Grant and your son, suzanne. That's a wonderful scholarship and honor. Still, Hahvod and NROTC seem like a pairaducks. Swimming in opposite directions. Here's that you'll lend some sanity to that bunch up there, G-man. Go get 'em and keep your head down.

Maybe GA can help us with this. He is well informed about this process. Are you there Great Americano???

Thanks! I thought they just chucked my application. So more waiting.

Whistle Pig-Pair of ducks. Haha, that's a cricket term when the score is 0-0. But it does exist there. The Faculty of Arts and Science still hasn't recognized ROTC from its campus because of the discrimination based on sexual orientation (you can't list it as an activity on the yearbook for example). Currently, Harvard funnels alumni donations from 3-4 anonymous individuals to MIT. FAS' sharp antagonism destroys the spirit and focus of those cadets and mids. We see today different organizations that sponser their own scholarships, criteria, and objective: Women in Science Scholarships, Native American College Fund. ROTC does the same in providing financial support and a wonderful opportunity.

Hey WhistlePig - there's an amazing young lady who is doing MARINEROTC at Harvard...she was active alot last year on these threads since she had a USNA Appointment as well. This young lady is doing Arabic as well. My Plebe and her just visited together at USNA on friday when she was down from Harvard and my Plebe is spending sometime over USNA's break with her at Harvard. Yes there IS a military life there at Hah-vahd...it's not easy, it's not many, but yes, there are young people at ROTC there and this young lady and my Plebe will most likely end up at Quantico together since their hopes and dreams for military service/education/degrees are so parallel.

Funny story. My daughter has 2 high school friends who went to Harvard, so over Christmas she saw them and they discussed their now-in-common-friend this young woman MarineROTC. Of course they knew her, she stands out there in her uniform and for her 'hard core' attitude. My daughter was discussing the the differences between a Service Academy full-time military education and a civilian ROTC environment they told her they simply couldn't imagine it.They told her the most 'hard core' military person they ever met was this young lady, except for my daughter. So that was high praise coming from a real Hah-vahd young man for the caliber of at least one ROTC person there.

You bet! There are good people everywhere, even when birds of a feather flocking and mocking make them tough to find. Surely it must be challenging for this great American young lady to be in the swamp of the intellectually liberated. She may be gaining experience in being a "minority" and guerilla warfare tactics. ;)

I've read some of MARINEROTC's posts, and she's both bright and young. And of course she must defend her choice, as would I. Still I must wonder if her future alma mater recognizes the diamond in its mids-t. (Sorry.)

I wonder if the young man's observation of "hard core" was euphemism for "extremist"? Or maybe even "conservative?"

Just got finished listening to a compelling set of lectures ... delivered at the other "yard" up in Boston ... entitled "Why They CAN'T Teach Ethics @ Hahvod." On the $$. Pretty sad scenario portrayed of a great many of our intellectual elite and their utter disdain for young people like ours. Their seeming definition of freedom is a tad far-fetched, imo. Each to her own in determining that which is most worth emulating, I spose.

The board for Navy ROTC scholarships meets once a month starting in August and ending in April. As WP mentioned in a previous post the meeting for August and September were skipped this year. The August board was canceled because there weren't enough completed applications and the September board was canceled because there weren't enough board members. The first board met in October and awarded 25-30 scholarships.

My son was awarded a scholarship to attend MIT at the November board. :)

The Marine Corps option board meets twice a year to award scholarships. I do not know the schedule for the Nursing option.

Last year's MarineCorpsROTC had it's early decisions in November, and normal decisions in March. Our kiddo did get an early decision to UCLA...but opted for her USNA Appointment. The Marine Corps ROTC page has helpful info

Moralityjustice, son got his NROTC decision today. He finished all of his reqs way back in October, as well. Yours should be any day now.

He visited the Harvard unit and was told that the unit there rarely fills completely because all of the colleges in the unit are so difficult to get into. But since you're already EA it looks really good for you. Congrats!

Yep, if you can get in, you're about guaranteed you can use your NROTC scholarship @ the Harvards, Cornells, MITs. They never fill their billets.

Thanks sealion!
I just checked online, and I was awarded the 4 year Navy option to MIT's unit. Congratulations to your son.
