UW or Chapman for Communications?

My top two college choices that I'm trying to decide between are University of Washington and Chapman University. I may change my major a little (between Journalism and Communications) but don't know which college would be better for me. Money is a relatively large factor, and UW is significantly cheaper than Chapman. But my parents would rather have me closer to home (I live in California) so Chapman seems better. I don't know which school holds better job opportunities/has better programs for my major, whether it be Journalism or Communications.

Thank you so much for any responses!! Any perspective is greatly appreciated!

I think UW has a respectable Communications program. SO whichever school you go to, its a win-win situation imo. Im also majoring in Communications. so hooray! lol

I was a communication double major and had finished 25 of the required 50 credits before I dropped it.

The problem with the Communication department at UW is that many of the classes are actually taught by graduate students. (And I’m not just referring to TA’s for the big classes, i’m not talking about graduate students actually teaching by themselves many of the classes…(esp. 300 level).

I’m not saying that graduate students are inherently bad teachers. That’s not the case. (Although I’ve had more bad then good, there are a few naturals out there.) I just don’t want to pay as much as I do in tuition to be taught by people still working on their own degree. It just doesn’t make sense to me. The teachers at my community college had more experience and I paid 1/2 the price.

Also, for the record I have NOT found this to be the case in other departments. My other major (sociology) only has real professors giving their lectures except for their 1-2 online classes.
