So I really want to go to the University of Washington and I want to major in something in wildlife conservation. The two essays topics (you must choose one) are

A. Discuss how your familys experience or cultural history enriched you or presented you with opportunities or challenges in pursuing your educational goals.

OR

B. Tell us a story from your life, describing an experience that either demonstrates your character or helped to shape it.

I have two questions

Does our personal statement have to be related to our major?

I have three ideas for what I should write about in my essay. Let me know which ones sound the best and can stand out to the admission board, or of the don't really stand out. I want as much honest feedback as possible.

So here are my three ideas.

A) throughout most of my life my parents have been extremely strict about me socializing with my friends. My social life has been very limited due to their guidance, their strictness has taught me to value hard work and family and to get good grades in school. (the only thing about this one is that I'm Asian. And for alot of Asians this is their situation....but this is the topic that I can most deeply write about)

B) when I was younger, I watched nickelodeon alot, especially the kids choice awards. In 2005 when I was in fifth grade, will smith won an award and he gave a really powerful speech about how "no matter what happens, never give up, never stop running" it was basically more about running but what I got from it was that anything can be conquered and accomplished if we just never give up and keep working for our goals. Ever since I heard that speech it made such an impact on me and literally every time when I felt like giving up whether I was running or being frustrated when doing homework, his speech would echo in my head, encouraging me to always push through. His speeches is one of the reasons why I try so hard to be a good student.

C) i have always had a passion for animals and when I was younger in really wanted to become a vetrinarian. But I always felt that my purpose in life was alot more in that, that really wanted to make a change in the world. In my sophomore year of high school in biology I was really interested in how each species on earth has a significant role in making the earth as beautiful and diverse as it is, and without some of the species, earth would not be what it is today. Today I'm takimg AP environmental science and my concern for this issue has become stronger and I really want to help I preserving wildlife.

So what do you guys think about these prompts? Which is the best? Or shouleni find something else to write about?
