UW Seattle Honor vs. University of California Santa Barbara

Hi, I am from Califnornia, my major is phycology. Which one is a better choice: UW honor or UCSB? Is honor really important? Thank you!

they are both excellent.

can you afford UW?

What are the perks of UW honors ?

Does it include priority registration for courses ?

Special honors housing ?

UW is a serious school with a beautiful campus & gorgeous setting, while UCSB has a lot of partying in a spectacular oceanfront setting.

UW honor dose come with special housing and classses. Also will be $25K higher in total every year compare to UCSB. Is the honor worth the price? Thank you!

my 2 cents is that honors programs can be nice but in general should not be the reason to choose a school. if your choice would be UCSB over UW, I would not change that just because you got into the honors program at UW. It’s not going to change the overall experience that much and your diploma at the end will say UW.

they are both good places and prob in a similar academic and prestige tier. UW is much more urban.

Unless $100k total is pocket change to you and your family, you have a strong reason to choose UCSB.

This. My daughter applied to both. Waitlisted at both, and we like both schools a lot. But $100K could not only help you fund grad school, but can also buy a car and put a down payment on a house. UCSB all the way.

UW is similar to UCB with the homeless and crime in the campus area. You’ll have to vigilant and know your surroundings if you decide on UW. There are many student opportunities at UW, at least in the Foster Business School. I am sure the same with other departmants, but you’ll have to seek for it. S, a recent UW Foster graduate, had internships with amazing companies such as Amazon and a Big 4 firm. He is now at a Big 4 and passed the CPA exam.

Also, UW, being in the Pac 12 sports conference, has the rah rah school spirit. UW compete in many sports such as football, basketball with other Pac 12 members, Cal, UCLA, Stanford, USC, etc. You cannot get that experience at UCSB. This all hinges on whether the extra out of state tuition is a burden or not. UW is about another $15K to $20K per year more than a UC or UCSB. Per year, UW is still about $20 to $25K per year cheaper than a private school like USC or Stanford.
