UW vs Seattle U (honors)

Despite getting into the Foster School of Business, I haven’t done very much research into UW as an in-state student. Naturally I have bias against it simply because many of my peers plan to attend UW, but I think I would regret not further considering it. I never even sent in my FAFSA to them but I don’t think this will greatly affect my financial aid as I’m college bound (guaranteed tuition coverage).

How does the experience of either compare? How about the social scene? While I don’t feel threatened by large classes in terms of academics, knowing myself I’m afraid I’ll get lost in the crowd and will slip into depression. While some large classes are ok, I really don’t want to wait until junior year.

Additionally I hope to do study abroad and would like to minor in a language. Majoring in business, I would like to get some internships (especially international ones) and wonder about their departments.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Congratulations, and good luck!

@Someperson44 : What are the benefits of Seattle University Honors ?

@Publisher Cohort, oral testing instead of written (I personally prefer this), even smaller class sizes than usual, not explicitly said but more attention from professors. Also all pre-reqs completed in first two years, so jr and at years can be dedicated to your major and have room for study abroad.

I really like both universities. Foster has strong placement numbers, but I know some who have had outstanding placement as finance / international business majors from Seattle University.

Regardless of school, if international business is an area of interest, it is almost essential study a foreign language.

This is, as you recognize, a personal choice based on fit. Seems as though you might be more comfortable at Seattle University, but realize the tremendous value & opportunity offered by Foster.

I cannot comment on social scene as I am an adult poster far removed from my college days.

In reference to cohort, here are the admissions statistics for direct admits to Foster last year (H.S. Class of ’18):

Median H.S. GPA: 3.91
Median SAT Score: 1410
Median ACT Score: 32

Assuming cost is equivalent, if you were my kid, I’d encourage Seattle University.

UDub is a great school, but I’ve explored SU in detail because one of my kids had it as their dream school before 10th grade.

I myself attended a small LAC. My youngest will do the same. My other kids attended large public Universities. I have seen the depth of a small school and the breadth and opportunities of a large. Each has something to offer. But, the single MOST IMPORTANT factor you stated was fear over your mental health.

Depression in the college age group is at an extreme high. Take the choice your intuition is telling you to take. Be confident and comfortable beginning your journey.
