UW - Seattle pre-major via appeal. Worth reconsidering commit to Fordham - Gabelli ??

DS is committed to Gabelli - Lincoln Center and is very happy with decision. He loves NYC, is excited by the program and happy with direct admit to major. He has several great friends also at Fordham, as its close to home.

Got notified that his appeal to UW was accepted, but as a pre-major. NOT direct to Foster.

Net price will end up about the same, plus or minus, so not a deciding factor.

He’s happy with Fordham over UW and so am I, but I don’t know anything about UW other than how popular it’s recently become. Is there anything I should consider before thanking them for the offer, but saying no thanks?

https://foster.uw.edu/academics/degree-programs/undergraduate-programs/admissions/standard-admission/ describes the process. Although the requirements to apply are only 2.5 GPA, it is likely that it is more competitive than that, based on only 30-50% of applicants being admitted.

Foster Business School is one of the top business schools in the country so congrats to your Son!

Problem with UW is the classes are large, it is hard to get classes and it is difficult to be admitted into business, CS and a few other majors. I think it would be a risk to attend UW without the direct admit.

@ProudLoomisDad, UW’s admissions overall are highly competitive, especially Foster, CS, and engineering. As a family that has turned down an acceptance to UW, my feeling is that the university admits too many freshman, leading to a housing crunch and competition for certain classes. Some classes are very big. If there is no major price difference (except of course the cost of living in NY), I’d say decline UW. Good luck to your son!

I think Fordham is a no-brainer here - direct admit and NYC. I don’t think there’s much in it between Foster and Gabelli, and everything else is in Fordham’s favor here,

Done! Thx for the votes of support.

Congratulations!
