UW Top 25 in Times World Rankings

Top Universities by Reputation 2011

Very similar to ARWU Ranking now. Top 17 in US and Umass is probably confusion with MIT.

LOL. Super Sucky rankings …

Can’t trust a ranking which

 1. Places Purdue in the TOP 50 universities of the world. Purdue, reputed?
 2. One that says UC Berkeley > OXFORD in terms of reputation. Heck, reputation is one area where oxford, undoubtedly, is on equal footing with harvard.

MIT is #2 while UMass is #19, so I don’t think they confused them.

The standards of any ranking are dubious, though, especially those that stick Harvard at the top with “100.”

Most world type rankings put more emphasis on engineering and sciences than liberal arts. The other world rankings (ARWU) have UMass at a more believable 100-150. Purdue at #69 in the world so it might be you who is uninformed.

[ARWU 2010](http://www.arwu.org/ARWU2010.jsp)

What is a fact is that both this and the ARWU world rankings are taken quite seriously outside the USA and guide internationals to US schools.

Purdue is a Big Ten school and a member of the AAU, I don’t see how them being in the top 50 in the world is inconceivable. Maybe not the norm, but it’s not ridiculous.

Oxford obviously has a stellar reputation, but UC Berkley is very well known throughout the world. Add to the fact that the most believe that the U.S., definitely not Britain, is home to the best universities in the world, and it’s not unrealistic to see UC Berkley as being more reputable than Oxford.

Glad to see that S1 was accepted by the ones listed on both list.

UM-Madison, U of I, U of Minnesota.

Still waiting for answers from a few higher-ranked schools. I guess we will know around April Fools Day!
