They are not required, but are accepted.

My problem is, my school is out of session until January 18th (and has been since December 14th, my last day) and I didn't yet know where I was applying at that time, so did not have any teachers set up to write my rec letters.

Since the app is due Feb. 1st, I feel as though it would be rude to ask a teacher to complete it by then, since I won't be able to ask until the 18th.

Is it going to seriously hurt my chances if I do not have one? If so, I have a teacher that I know would write it for me on time and still give me a good one despite my late request. I just really wanted her to write my recs for other colleges I am applying to that aren't due until between March and June.

Thanks for any advice!
