I'm a high-school student from Ohio and need some advice about which school to attend. I wish to major in something science related (ex. physics) while taking french classes (not sure if I want to major in language or not). Ohio is ok, but I am looking for a change. I am considering Ohio State, Colorado University, and the University of Washington. I just want to know if it is worth it for an Ohio student to go all the way to Seattle for school, or in other words I want to know if UW's science, english, and french departments are good enough to pull me out of Ohio?

Well, ranking-wise, UW is higher than both.

If you want to leave Ohio ("looking for a change"), then it seems like you've already made up your mind.

If you are from the Cleveland area, the rainy gray skies in Seattle won't faze you, the Seattle weather will seem warm, and Seattle will give you the benefit of Mount Rainier and the Pacific.

If you are from sunnier Columbus or Cincinnati, you should need to ask yourself if you can survive the gray skies.

Not that weather should be your main consideration...

UW has a great physics department! English is also excellent, and I imagine the French is fine as well.

I am from the boulder area, and thus have knowledge of CU. If you have a passion for French it is not the best place for you. Science/engineering/Leeds and Music is the extent of the well viewed programs at the school. The people and culture can be a shock for the less boulderite of people as well. Personally I liked Seattle much more than I like Colorado but I would definitely advise you to visit both locations if at all possible.
Personal thought here... but if you can get into Washington leave your thoughts of Colorado behind!
