UWC applicants year 2014

@imready4this, thats what I thought. Where in the US?

@tecz77 California! What about you?

Are there any current or past students out there that have gotten in when they were expecting less than the best? What were your conditions, and what do you think got you in?

And I’m from Ohio! Go midwest!

@flopsyuk did they say 400 applicants?! I thought they said 200?!! :000

@flopsyuk and dude I haven’t even finished the application so…

@inready4this, I’m from the DC area. But oddly enough, I havent really heard of any one from around here applying… What part of California are you from?
@Robochi, I feel like while there were most students on here, most have left. If you dont get a reply on here, I’m sure you could contact people with blogs to ask them… But I might be mistaken in assuming that there are few students on here

How strict do you think they are about the 150 word limit? I am pretty happy with one of my essays, but it is 159 words, and this is after editing out 27 more. I cant get it any skimmer without losing some of the meaning I intended.

Would contractions be acceptable? I’ve had some teachers say yes and some say no…

@Robochi, I’m under the impression that formalities aren’t nearly as important in these essays as aptly expressing yourself through your content. So I think contractions are fine, as well as going nine words over the limit, so long as you’re able to make an impression.

@Robochi one of my essay is 225 words. Ugh need to shrink it a lot

@imready4this Ha! Sorry… I couldn’t imagine having to shrink something that much. Im jinxing myself here… anyways at least you have until January.

@tecz77 that makes sense.

@Robochi yeah As I was writing I was reminiscing about the event and just started typing and it turned out to be that much haha yeah I’m going to have to take out a lot

@lalarae yeees it would definitely be beneficial. hmm im gonna think about it some more. the trouble is that im already doing another year of high school so it would add up to around 2 gap years so i dont know if that would be acceptable/if it would make for a weird experience in high school

@lalarae yeeees it would be so beneficial ergg. ill think about it some more. jsut the problem is that im already doing extra year of high school so it would amount to 2 gap years so i dont know if that would make for a weird college experience

Someone mentioned books earlier, I don’t read that much but when I do I always end up finding great books. Has anyone here read the Book Thief? If you haven’t you should because it’s amazing.
I’ve finished my essays but I get a feeling that I should rewrite them even though they are fine.

oh whoops i didnt realize the first one posted so i rewrote it heh.

guys cant stop stalking uwc blogs…problem

@Robochi, welcome to the message boards, and you will find that a lot of us are eerily similar. For example, I think EXACTLY LIKE YOU, with regard to the getting shortlisted will be tough but I’m pretty confident once I get to the interview stage.

@Nnormal, yes no one can stop stalking those blogs. I’m reading blogs about UWCs I don’t even want to go to now.

@hedwig8 I thought they said between 300 and 400? Were you there too? ;)

Is there anyone else wanting to go to Adriatic? I too have spent for ever researching this and really need to go somewhere with good scholarships!

@flopsy i was there too… but cannot remember at all what they said! :’) oh dear
