Uwc Usa

hey guys!

I got into UWCUSA, and Im pretty excited, but...
Ive been googleing it and trying to find out more, except most of of the results are from UWC-affiliated websites

Im a bit of a skeptic.. so can you all tell me stuff you know about UWCUSA/what youve heard? academics, social life, drugs and the like, how college admissions work?

and though UWC is such a great movement endorsed by reputable figures, why is it so hard to find info about?

thankss

Hi wstripes921,
I'm a current second year at UWC-USA. My name is To Nhu and I'm from Vietnam. We have a pretty big group of UWC-USA students on facebook, so if you have an account, you can join us in the "Armand Hammer United World College of the American West" network. We are always enthusiastic to get to know you and answer all of your questions.

UWC-USA is vibrant community with the most quirky, self motivated groups of individuals I've ever met. Coming to UWC-USA, I have experienced a kind of life that I surely know will place an impact on me for the rest of my life.

About academics, we study the International Baccalaureate in which each student chooses 6 subjects from the list of subjects offered at the school. You can find that list on the UWC-USA website at United World College-USA. The academics here is, I'm glad to say, not too rigourous to prevent you to see to other commitments such as CAS and social life, but also not too easy to be found boring. There are periods of the year when the level of stress almost becomes inhumane to some of us, but normally everything has a very nice pace.

Because we are diverse, we have a very dynamic and unique social life. The biggest problem many students here face, in fact, is the balance between academics and social life because there is always something to do or some event happening on campus.

Rules about Drug and Alcohol are extremely strict on campus, and any use of drug will lead to immediate expulsion.

About college admission, you can find a list of matriculation from the class of 2007 on the website. I feel sad when some incoming students do regard UWC as a University Airport for them. UWC has so much more to offer that such statement and belief just simply means nothing in comparision. But yes, we do have a very high acceptance rate to selective US colleges, including all 8 schools of the Ivy League. Besides, due to the Davis Scholarship program, each UWC graduate student receive a scholarship of $10 000 or $20 000 for his/her four year of undergrad study. For Princeton, Colby, College of the Atlantic, Middlebury and Wellesly, the scholarship for UWC student worth $40 000.
Where are you from? Because I don't go on CC often, if you have questions regarding UWC-USA, please email me at tonhu.huynhthanh@yahoo.com, or join the facebook group
Best
