My son has been accepted at both in computer engineering. He has been accepted to the honors at both. Clemson is offering him a substantial amount of money over 4 years whereas Va Tech is only offering a small amount for 1 year. Any thoughts on the 2 schools for computer engineering? Thanks!

Go with the money. The two schools are comparable.

I would say visit both places if you can. In my book, ECE @ VT is a notch above Clemson. Despite recent event, the department remains a tier-1 contender. I think your son will find better undergrad research opportunities as well as internship/coop/permanent placements in VT.

DS is a Comp Eng student at Clemson. He's working as hard as he possibly can, but he loves Clemson. I don't have any first hand knowledge about VT or their program. My son has found all the opportunities he can handle at Clemson for undergrad research, internships & coops. He has a paid internship this summer & will be cooping this fall. He had at least 10 coop intervies & could have had more. From those 10 he had enough offers to be really choosy as did his fellow classmates who are also cooping.
He has been doing independent, undergrad research/study since his 2nd semester at Clemson - his honors advisor directed him to the prof for whom he's doing the research.
Don't know if the opportunities are more at VT but DS has plenty at Clemson.
