Vacation Housing

I read on the Hopkins Forum that to get the vacation housing option, I must be living in Wolman Hall D: Is this true? Can't I live in the Buildings or AMRs and then move to Wolman over Spring Break/Thanksgiving?
Where else can I stay? D:

Oh, and do I need to take all my things with me during these short breaks, or only during summer break?

If you want vacation housing as a freshman, it is either McCoy or Wolman. This links makes it sound like Wolman for next year [Oncampus: Vacation Housing](http://www.jhu.edu/hds/oncampus/vacation_housing.html)

You do not have to take everything with you for Thanksgiving, December or spring breaks - you only have to move out everyhting at the end of the school year in May.

Here is another link. [OnCampus: Incoming Freshmen: Step 2](http://www.jhu.edu/hds/incoming_frosh/explore_residence_halls.html)

many international students choose to go to vacation housing in Wolman. I personally think Wolman’s the best. However, another option is become friends with someone who lives nearby and go back with them over break or meet other international people and go visit NYC or fly down to florida with them.

Remeber that while Thanksgiving and Spring break are short, Winter break is pretty long so you’d probably want to go home in the winter if you don’t have vacation housing

Thanks, AAustin and akbknc! Is it hard to get to Wolman (especially as there is a major road separating it from the campus?) I really can’t cross a bustling road D: And I assume the security around Wolman is also very tight?

Don’t worry. Wolman is practically on campus. You cross one street to get onto the “real campus” but there are so many traffic lights there that you won’t have any trouble. Hopkins security patrols 3-4 blocks past Wolman on one side and like 6 blocks on the other. Wolman is just as safe as the main campus

I keep hearing this theme Wolman is the best (presumably because of suite style living) - Why isn’t the same thing said about AMR III - (aren’t they are also suite style living)? What is the difference between Wolman and AMRIII except for a tiny kitchen in Wolman suites? If one wants an unlimited meal plan (and hence proximity to FFC) and suite style living, wouldn’t you want AMR III?

My D lived in Bldgs A/B freshman year. They are listed as “climate controlled” . So while better than AMR I/II temperature wise, you don’t control the thermostat in the suite like you do in Wolman and you aren’t supposed to open the windows. Each Bldg has a “common room” but very small and not conducive to larger gatherings like the other bldgs. The rooms, as a whole, are larger in Wolman too, I think.

To collagedad:

There is no building called AMRIII. So I’m not exactly sure what you’re talking about. The choices for freshman are Wolman, Buildings A and B, and AMR I and II. Wolman and Buildings A and B are suite style. Wolman rooms are much nicer than in the Builidings, and there are also usually some forced triples in the Buildings. In Wolman, there is also a very nice common room on every floor in Wolman, with a TV and couches, which is not the case in the Buildings. You can also control the temperature of your room in Wolman. AMR I and II are not suite style living. They are the traditional style with shared bathrooms on each floor and no kitchens.
