Vaccine at school

Loomis Chaffee just sent a message to parents announcing an on campus vaccination clinic for all students 16 and above who wish to receive the vaccine. It is not required for students to be vaccinated, but the school will offer two doses of Pfizer to any students, boarding and day, whose parents want to sign them sign up.

@TonyGrace – opening it and being able to get it are two different things! We have struggled mightily as 1B and 1C to get appointments in NJ. Hoping this gets addressed too!

@gardenstategal
Is there a Twitter bot? There’s one in MA. It’s actually fairly easy to get an appointment once you follow the bot. I’ve gotten several the day people were eligible.

Me too. It’s not hard with the bot. If anyone needs help in NJ please DM me.

@one1ofeach – the answer is yes. But you have to lie about your health conditions to get an appointment. I have friends who did that, but I will not. If you registered with the state, it is quite random in terms of when you’ll be contacted. And you may get referred to a site 1.5 hours away. (Not a show stopper for us, but it would have been for my mom!)

And @TonyGrace totally rocks!!

Could you tell me about the MA one? I’m eligible but can’t get an appointment anywhere.

@gardenstategal sounds like an odd system. In MA if you’re eligible, you’re eligible and at this point almost everyone I know is. They added BMI of 25 or above and since that describes pretty much everyone over 40…

The rules have become a bit silly at this point IMO, YMMV, but in all surrounding states even my 16 year old is eligible. Frustrating slog.

Yes. In NJ, there are megasites you can sign up for only if you are “invited” by the state. You can approach others directly. But this is driven by where you sit on the state’s registry which everyone signed up for in January.

For the pharmacies, you can sign up directly. They ask you a set of questions. If I answer honestly, I am eligible for an appointment (as of last week). But someone ten years younger, they are ineligible for an appointment UNLESS they say they have a medical condition. Many people I know are quite open about having said they have a condition, even if they don’t, because it’s not verified. The pharmacy appointments are hard to come by and most will require a drive of at least an hour.

It is totally wacky. In spite of my rants, I see this like boarding a plane – we’ll all get on!

So crazy how states are so different. Early on PA was awful. Now there have been 3 weeks of open appointments on the local hospital website that are just sitting there with no one taking them. It opens to all on April 19 and I have an appointment for my 16 year old. I got mine early by volunteering at a mass clinic.

Mercersburg is offering vaccines on campus to 16+ starting next week, with parent approval. Very excited at this development.

Call Boston Medical Center - they have appts at a few places, maybe half hour on hold but then you get a nice human! Good luck!

Thanks. I got one at CVS via their website. Key is to search after midnight…

FYI - we’ve learned on many of the college info sessions, that vaccines will likely be required for Fall college attendance at many schools.

PA just announced they have Pfizer for all 16+ students, in partnership with a local hospital. Appointments next week.

I saw that today. So happy! Fingers crossed on the younger teens - I think there is some realistic hope for it to happen in the next few weeks.

Me too!! I’ve already done preliminary research about pfizer vaccine locations near school and lined family up to take kiddo for an appointment in the event she’s eligible soon! The school will drive her up to 20 minutes away, but it seems like a good excuse for a family visit too.

Most definitely! Appointments are pretty easy to come by right now, so she’ll would be able to go somewhere that is convenient.
