Vaccine hypocrisy

“Why are these posts in the Vaccine Hypocrisy thread vs. the Boosters thread?”

Because currently there is no such thing as a booster (there is a third dose of a vaccine) and I think the hypocrisy angle has been detailed.

Jumping a line to get a third dose of vaccine by misrepresenting ones vaccination status is in some people’s opinion hypocritical. Selectively following the FDA and a scientific approach only when it supports a person predisposition is in some people’s opinion hypocritical.

As you posted up thread…
“The lying about being vaccinated is just another reason people feel resentment.”

Lying to get a third does is not different and fosters the same sort of resentment.

Hope that answers your concern.

There is a already a long, ongoing, separate thread for the topic you are posting on. Not trying to be thread police here, just suggesting that there is a better venue (already open) for your posts.

Did anyone hear the NPR news this morning? Apparently in Florida, they are setting up mass regeneron sites…for those who get positive Covid and are in “high risk groups”.

Is it me, or is this the ultimate Hipocrisy…for the unvaccinated who aren’t getting vaccinated because the vaccines aren’t all FDA full approval.

I did not think regeneron was fully approved either!

Yes, it is EUA (not fully approved, unlike Pfizer-BioNTech shot):

Yes that’s true. I watch NBC Nightly News and maybe a week ago there was a segment where a correspondent went to the lines at a local center interviewing people who said they were there for Regeneron because they were unvaccinated and tested positive. The sound bite was someone in their car who said they didn’t get the vaccine because they didn’t trust it but wanted the MAb since they were now positive. People are using MAb as a vaccine replacement if they test positive. It’s not a vaccine replacement and a waste of resources. Needs to be for a select population only. Totally agree with you that this is being abused.

I think this reflects mentality of some folks. Screw prevention, just give me a pill when my life choices land me in hot water.

Plus…cost. Isn’t the cost of vaccine far lower than the cost of regeneron?

At this point these pop up sites are being funded using federal dollars.

Sorry…I think getting regeneron when not vaccinated and then testing positive is very hypocritical.

I’m happy that there is a treatment, but prevention should be number one.

It is a huge waste of federal $$ IMO.

Yes it’s ridiculously goofy reasoning. “I don’t trust the fully approved vaccine even though vaccines in general have been in widespread use for decades but I trust this newfangled monoclonal antibody thing which I don’t even know wth it is nor can I even pronounce it and it’s EUA only and not fully approved.”

And also, “I’m scared of a 3s vaccine shot that lasts for months but willing to sit for an hour with an IV for a monoclonal antibody infusion that wears off after a few weeks. It’s so much better and less intrusive.”

BTW, monoclonal antibody treatment actually does require being hooked to an IV for an hour with another hour of post-treatment monitoring. I think in FL they’re doing some sort of shortcut though due to demand.

The 3 countries you mention are France, Germany and England…

The US doesn’t have a monopoly on either knowledge or stupidity. The one consistent globally has been that public health suffers when Covid is politicized and or individuals act hypocritically by selectively choosing the science they want to adhere to based on their predisposed views or self interest.

The NPR news said shots…I think four…but don’t quote me on that. Maybe someone can find this news broadcast and link it

There is the infusion or the 4 shot series.

Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP)

for high risk people who have been exposed to COVID-19 but do not have a positive test. The course of treatment are four injections and an hour needed for observation, patients must be referred by a physician.

As far as I know, REGEN-COV may only be used as post-exposure prophylaxis for adults and pediatric individuals (12 years of age and older weighing at least 40 kg) who are:

  • at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19, including hospitalization or death, and

  • not fully vaccinated or who are not expected to mount an adequate immune response to complete SARS-CoV-2 vaccination (for example, people with immunocompromising conditions, including those taking immunosuppressive medications), and

have been exposed to an individual infected with SARS-CoV-2 consistent with close contact criteria per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), or

who are at high risk of exposure to an individual infected with SARS-CoV-2 because of occurrence of SARS-CoV-2 infection in other individuals in the same institutional setting (for example, nursing homes or prisons)

It’s my understanding the Governor DeSantis (FL) has been pushing the Regeneron thing. Rumor is, he’s an investor. Hence, here we are.

It is one of his biggest donors.

“It is one of his biggest doners”.

Actually it is far more tangential. One of DeSantis biggest supporters runs a hedge fund called Citadel (they manage $35 Billion) that has a meaningful investment in the manufacturer. The investor list however spans all political affiliations.

A 35 year old woman (fully vaccinated) died waiting for an ECMO machine. This is tragic.

yes, the death is tragic, but why post in the Hypocrisy thread? Digging thru the details, the woman was fully vaccinated; teh Hospital (only?) had 3 ECMO machines; and, all were in use. What we don’t know is by whom (vaccinated and/or unvaccinated patients).

Yes, very sad. They said she was immunized months ago and had MS. She might have had a poor initial response to the vaccine and low to no levels of antibodies remaining at this point. The third dose of the vaccine or MAb could have helped if started early enough. And, of course, if she could have been transferred to another hospital that had an available bed………
