I n

Ooh... I got a Sony Vaio FS620W just a couple of days ago, and I'm in love with it! It's has nearly everything I could possibly want (except a DVD-R drive, which would be nice but which I can live without), and I got it for only $1K, which is really good for a Vaio.

Pentium M processor (1.6 GHz)
512 MB DDR-RAM
80 GB hard drive
widescreen
4-6 hours of battery life

You can buy it on http://www.sonystyle.com, for $1300 or $1400, but I had a couple hundred dollar rebate from a local store. Vaios tend to run on the expensive side, but they're really worth what you're paying for them.

Yeah I swear that's the 1st thing that popped into my mind, Sony Vaio. I'm definently getting one, I'm not sure which model yet. I have a Sony Vaio desktop.

If you're looking at Dell's (which is what I have), they constantly have online discount codes avaliable. Right now, they have one of the best one's I've seen: 35% of $999+ purchase of Inspirion laptop using coupon code "B?MMRMGLWPVDFC" (valid till 7/7)

Funny, I also thought of a Sony Vaio first thing. They are light and of very good quality. If I liked Windows I would probably buy a Sony Vaio. However, I just bought an Apple iBook a couple months ago that I love. I got it for under 1,000, its compact, and if you buy an iBook now you will get a free iPod mini!

Yeah, but if you get an apple and plan to use/download different types of applications, you might sometimes have compatibility issues. Personally, I would get more of a workstation/desktop replacement for a laptop. That's only because I use some intensive applications and some gaming.

For a college student though, a Vaio would be a well suited notebook.
