Do students really use the Van Laundry service? It sounds expensive. How much is each wash and dry in the dorm coin laundry machines?
It is very expensive compared to doing your own laundry. Most students do not use the service. Some students do use it though–as you can imagine, that price is small for some lucky families. , and it’s a nice convenience for them. It’s $1.25 to use a washer or dryer, and all machines accept the commodore card.
Thanks! That’s very helpful!
I had a classmate (female) at Furman pour an entire box of Cheer into her washing machine her freshman fall. Had never done her own laundry! suds filled the entire room 6 feet tall and campus maintenance had to come with hoses to beat the suds down. Very Lucy and Ethel day. unreal. My Vandyson found the laundry chores to be sort of relaxing and a quiet time. One of his four years he had to travel from a Mayfield Lodge to the basement of another dorm to do his laundry which was a bit inconvenient. The Commons laundry locations are quite nice.
Not all Commons houses have laundry facilities, so some First Years have to take a short walk to another House for laundry. My D did that all year, and is headed to a Mayfield next year, so another year of travel for laundry!
COMPLETELY 100% WORTH THE PRICE. USE THE VAN LAUNDRY. Makes life so much easier. Your clothes come back clean and FOLDED. Obviously the majority of students don’t use the service, but my friends and I all used it so there are plenty of people who do. I 10000000% recommend buying the service, you won’t regret it.
@Faline2 that is hysterical!!
We found the laundry service quite expensive, we sent him to school with “Tide Pods”
Yeah the van laundry service is definitely bougie. I personally will label you as a lazy and privileged rich kid, but my opinion doesn’t really matter, and you can spend your money however you like.
^ not gonna lie, I second potatters. The general opinion IME is that people who use VanLaundry have money to blow, are the kids whose parents are paying full price to come to Vandy, and who think they’re too good to do their own laundry. I understand that that isn’t the case all (perhaps even most) of the time, that’s just what I’ve heard.
I used the service like twice, when I felt really lazy and tired of doing my own.
