I hear you, @Bobm34 – my son was also rejected by UChicago, Northwestern, and MIT with a 1590 SAT, 800/790 on Math/Physics, tons of 5s on AP tests, and a perfect GPA. Really hoping his high stats earn him a spot at Vandy (without requiring him to also invent a nuclear fusion reactor or solve global warming or something).
I think you’re completely wrong here. One student’s acceptance absolutely impacts another’s wait list or rejection. For example, a student admitted during EA in December who has not yet accepted, absolutely weighs on a school’s decision to put a RD student on the wait list. If you know you’re not going to a certain school, decline or pull your application as soon as you know.
My son rejected ED Chicago…SAT 1560, GPA UW 4.0, 14AP’s and advanced college math [Calc III, Linear Equations]. Drum major, etc…it’s a crapshoot!
Two, I hope your son gets in at vandy! It is a great School. Who knows maybe our sons will become friends if they both get in.
My son is similar to those mentioned here. 36 ACT, 4.0 UW GPA, 12 APs all 5s except 2 4s. Accepted UVA Out of State, Weight Listed at University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins, and WASHU, rejected by Northwestern. Waiting on Rice, Vanderbilt, Duke, Columbia and Brown. This cycle has been incredibly frustrating as he did about as much as he could do. He will be fine regardless as he has good options but hoping for good news this week after a string of disappointing news.
So many students these days have “advanced” college math courses on their transcripts. Very sorry for your son, but kids these days need more than a couple of “advanced” college math courses on their transcripts. @flyguy1
So when are decisions out? Today? Tomorrow?
True, Thursday is going to be very rough
@kerlykels someone earlier in the thread said vandy admissions blog will post to give 24 hours notice so whenever they post it will come out the next day. They haven’t posted yet but based on earlier dates it’s speculated tomorrow or Thursday
Kk i thought it was today because last year it was the tuesday but i guess not
^wow that was rude
Maybe they’ll just surprise us today. I’d prefer that over the tweet today that says you’ll receive an email tomorrow that will tell you the actual release day that’s at the end of the week.
yea maybe they’ll pull a Northwestern and post them today with no advance notice lol
Thanks for sharing @DadofBoys, @flyguy1, @TwoHearted, @Bobm34, @Pegidyh -Your kids are so impressive and I think everyone recognizes the effort put in to get to this point. It’s really hard to get past so much rejection and to really never know why you do or don’t get in. I keep telling myself it will all work out as it did for my two older sons but this waiting is killing me!!
@tam529 is it bad that I can’t list off his stats lol? I know he has taken almost all AP classes when offered - He did not take any subject tests but I think it was 1510 and 34 for SAT and ACT - He is captain of Varsity soccer and has volunteered at are food pantry since 8th grade - but honestly the one thing my son did that no one here has really mentioned is that he participated in the Duke Tip program in 8th grade and did summer engineering programs - Like last year he was accepted into Uchicago summer program but ended up attending Johns Hopkins Engineering Innovation program - We were hoping that those programs would count for something and maybe they did? I didn’t see his essays but he read me the one he wrote for UChicago about inventing a magic spell and I thought it was amazing! but clearly I am biased I know it has been said repeatedly but it really is a crapshoot at many of these schools - Good luck!!! ( I forgot he also competes in a coding club and started school a year early if that counts for anything )
So no news about decision dates?
i don t feel like vandy is the type of school to release decisions without notifying. i think they re going to go with the same method as their previous years- emailing 24h before. i have a feeling we ll be getting that email today and find out tomorrow
It’s definitely not today or tomorrow unless they send out an e mail tonight. I just received this from the Senior Admissions officer at Vandy when I inquired.
Hi ______,
Thank you for reaching out. Decisions will be released by April 1st. You will get an email approximately 24 hours ahead of the release to alert you.
Best,
@SwimSwam12 Ugh
Just got an email— decisions will be on the portal on Wednesday (TOMORROW!) at 5:30 CT
