Vanderbilt dorms?

I'm in Saybrook and we are apparetly housing frosh in Vanderbilt instead of L-Dub. Anyone know the layout? I'm told they're the best Old Campus dorms but I also believe they have bunk beds- which usually indicate small rooms. And tips or info appreciated

The bedrooms in Vandy can be a little small, but I think that’s the case for basically all freshman housing. In most cases, you can debunk the beds if you really want to (that’s what my roommate and I did). Vandy is definitely pretty nice, at any rate. As far as layout, there are six entryways in Vandy, three for Branford and three for Saybrook (previously for Berkeley). Branford gets A, B, and C so Saybrook must be getting D, E, and F. Vandy has 5 floors (if I recall correctly). C and D are the entryways under the arch, B and E are in the middle (and are the largest) and A and F are closest to the gates. Most freshman suites are quads so the A or B after your suite number indicates which bedroom within the suite you’ll be in.

A few have said that B is largest…
does that mean number of rooms, number of floors, size of rooms…
Largest in what respect? Thanks

Suspect dorms rooms just don’t have quite the level of furnishings today…

I’ve never been in the Saybrook (formerly Berkeley) side of Vandy, so I can’t speak for entryways D-F, but when people say entryway B is the largest, they are just talking about rooms/entryway - there are 4 on each floor, 3 rooms with 4 people/each and one with 2 people, as opposed to the smaller entryways which have fewer people.

The bedrooms in Vandy are pretty tiny (some make it impossible to unbunk; that was the case my freshman year) but Vandy rooms are definitely the most beautiful frosh rooms - gorgeous old paneling in the rooms and common room, and a beautiful view of Vandy’s own courtyard, which is particularly stunning in the spring when it’s all in bloom.

In my opinion, anything that’s not L-Dub is pretty good. Then again, I lived in Welch and my friends all lived in Lawrance, which have really, really nice rooms, so I might be biased …

Are these bathrooms cleaned by Yale, or by the students?

If you have a bathroom inside your suite, by the students.
If you have a bathroom outside of your suite (i.e. shared by 2 suites), by Yale.

YeloPen - not entirely true. In Durfee, S1 lived in a suite of 5 people and shared a bathroom with another suite of 2 people with a bathroom in between. It was cleaned (ha!) by the students. The deciding factor is whether cleaners can get access to the bathroom without going through a suite.

Anyone know the floor plan / room sizes for suite F43 in Vanderbilt? Thanks!

These are the Vanderbilt floor plans:

Funny, my son was in Durfee and they were supposed to be the best ones on Old Campus. I liked his suite as they had a big common room and 4 singles and 1 double. My son had one of the singles.

YaleGradandDad - YOU SO ROCK! Thanks for posting the floorplans

My daughter has been assigned a corner room in Vandy and it appears within the 93 sf there is no closet? Any ideas…Is this possible NOT to get a closet/

^^ My son was in Vanderbilt last year. His room had a closet, but the closet is not on the floorplan. I’m assuming that’s true for all rooms.

There definitely are rooms without closets as one of my kids suitemates had one on Old Campus and he had one in his residential college. In those rooms they supplied an armoire. I don’t know if they have rooms like that in Vanderbilt but I wouldn’t assume that all the rooms have closets and they are just not shown on the floor plan.

BTW, his Old Campus room with a closet had at most 2.5 linear feet of hanging space with some type of 6" encased pipe running up through the center of the space for two to share. These dorms are not the place for someone who likes to surround themselves with a big wardrobe.
