I think the CV scholarships are released around the first week of March. Good luck! And congrats on your acceptance!

Seems like CV was released last year on March 7th, a Sunday, so probably the 6th ish this year.

Ok, so based on the leaked info from ED1, the ED2 admit rate was what
somewhere in the range of 10-12%, right (my math may be wrong, lol, but I think it’s in the vicinity). If that’s the case
ED2 is a fools game for Vandy. Virtually no appreciable difference between ED2 and RD, and the forced committment from ED. Fascinating how this plays out in future- they’d be MUCH better off getting rid of ED2 and simply accepting 850-900 or so ED1. There’s zero chance any counselor in their right mind will recommend Vandy ED2 now.

It’s really tough to determine ; the RD admit rate last year was 6.7 % so if the ED2 rate is 12 % that’s an advantage to ED2 - not huge but not small .
Also the ED 1 numbers always seem skewed since at most school that’s where recruited athletes usually enter so they ED 1 admission rates are deceivingly high .

Absolutely. But let’s say ED2 is 11%. Yes, it’s an advantage over RD. But would you recommend your child apply ED2 to a school with an 11% acceptance rate that would lock them in? A viable Vandy candidate would have a puncher’s chance at most selective schools, and I would assume would also have higher than the average RD acceptance rate at Vandy.

Split any way, that’s a brutally low ED rate. I don’t think Vanderbilt can be very happy with the ED1 leak at this point.

So what were the ED1 leaked stats?
I can’t seem to find them.

Our D’s friend received some info from her GC on the ED2 round. Great relationship with Vandy AO. Basically
hands were tied. Had no spots. Actually sent a really nice email to the GC, explaining that the girl was qualified and he wished he had a spot for her. When it was asked why she wasn’t deferred, now that it is a possibility this year, the response was that the RD round was going to be even more narrow and while he easily could have deferred her he didn’t feel it would be fair as her shot would’ve been even more remote.

I can’t imagine things not changing a little for Vandy in the next year or two. You can’t have a 10-11% admittance rate for ED2 and still have it be a viable option for anyone. Our D is in the RD round (she has very little shot, lol), but her GC has been telling the juniors that it’s either ED1 or RD for next year- they’re going to severely caution against ED2 from now on.

It was always thought that Vandy ED2 was the biggest “Ivy reject” Ed round of any school with ED2 (with possible exception of UChicago, but our GC thinks Vandy is more so because Chicago is very niche in some ways), but this cements that idea.

My D22 was deferred from her ED1 school and decided to ED2 to Vandy which was a close 2nd choice because she decided to play the odds. She didnt want to take the chance of being rejected in RD from all of her top choices - given schools are rejecting so many qualified applicants this year- and look back and regret not doing everything she could to increase her odds. She knew she could get rejected or deferred but then she would he in the same boat as just applying RD anyways. She is thrilled to have been one of the lucky few accepted.

Email. Still a little confused on why I was chosen for MOSAIC due to my demographic but I can’t complain.

Congrats, and this is the one spot that will continue to be ED2. The case where Vandy is a clear favorite of all remaining schools. In that scenario, there’s literally no risk, and even if it is only 3-5% points, if Vandy is the school the student would choose above all other acceptances
there’s your ED2. Again, congrats! She destroyed the odds and is in an absolutely amazing school.

Our D was rejected from Duke ED, and decided not to ED2 anywhere because there were so many schools jammed together in her mind. She did’'t play the odds well at all, but she was clear-eyed about that going in. Her thought was that there are 10-12 schools she legitimately would be thrilled to attend, and figured to apply ED to her top school and then let chips fall.

Again, to anyone admitted ED2- congrats and I’m sure you’re going to do GREAT things as your application was assuredly stellar.

Anybody know when scholarships could come out? I am specifically interested in the Fred Russell Grantland Rice sports writing scholarship but also curious about cornelius vanderbilt.

I believe the CV announcements are early March. I don’t know about any others.

Do you know of any merit scholarships you can apply for after being admitted?

According to the Vandy website:

Yes, there are a limited number of merit scholarships that you may apply for during or after your freshman year at Vanderbilt.

It doesn’t specify what they are so I’d suggest emailing to ask for more specifics:

scholarships@vanderbilt.edu

The website also includes the following:

Vanderbilt offers a limited number of merit-based scholarships in amounts starting from $8,000 per year. Candidates for these scholarships will be identified by the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships on the basis of academic achievement and fulfillment of any specific scholarships qualifications. Students wishing to ensure their consideration for these awards are encouraged to submit the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship application by December 1, 2021.

These additional merit-based scholarships include the following:

  • The Carell Family Scholarship for students who have held part-time employment during their high school years and demonstrate financial need (full tuition and fees),

  • The Clark Scholars Program provides scholarship and programmatic assistance to meritorious engineering undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need ($15,000 per year plus assistance for summer immersive experiences),

  • The Curb Leadership Scholarship for students who place creativity at the center of their lives and use their talents and leadership to transform their communities ($8,000),

  • The John Seigenthaler Scholarship for outstanding minority students interested in a career in journalism and/or public policy (full tuition).

To those of you who were deferred–> are you guys submitting a LOCI? Because I have submitted one to the other schools I was deferred from but the language on the Vandy letter is different in that it says to submit information “judiciously” so I’m not sure what to do

guidance counselors at my school discouraged it – apparently the people at Vandy said that they do not want information beyond the initial application unless it is extremely significant
