Vanderbilt ED1 Class of 2019 Discussion Thread

Haha yeah I’m sure you’ll be fine (: 50 days left now…

@CollegePanda96‌ They cannot officially “superscore” the ACT due to the nature of the scores, however if I remember correctly Vandy prefers if you just send all of your scores (within reason of course) so that they can make a decision with all the info possible. Obviously if you do horrible on something don’t send it, but I think sending your ACT might be smart. But hey this is just my 2 cents, I’m in the same boat as an applicant as you right now.

@Suomi84 So you’re saying my June ACT of (29,34,33,27) won’t reflect negatively on my English and Science if I were just to send my (34,30,30,32)?

TO EVERYONE WHO IS NERVOUS BECAUSE THEY JUST SUBMITTED: I submitted about 3 weeks ago and I felt the exact same as you guys for about 5 days. I couldn’t stop thinking about Vandy and whether I would get in and it honestly became controlling and it was all I thought about. My advice is to just get it off your mind! What worked for me was working on other college apps, the “Why do you want to go here” questions that make you think about the school are a good reminder that though you may love Vandy there are TONS of amazing schools out there. Just helped me  good luck to everyone!

@CollegePanda96‌ Huh, I mean its hard to say, I’m no admissions officer. My only thought is that since they superstore SAT, they might just look at your highest breakdown in the ACT and use that kind of superscore mentality? Your english and science didn’t deviate that badly, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it. But you did get a nice boost in math and writing. For me my first sat was CR: 770 M: 620 W: 680. And second time around CR: 740 M: 730 W: 640, and I sent it because my math got so much better. But then again they superscore the SAT. Maybe you could email an admissions officer or talk to a school counsellor?

@Suomi84‌ I think I’m starting to get past those initial few days of freaking out haha (: It’s a bit of relief, that’s for sure. Never thought the day would come when I’d relax about it, but I’m getting there.

@nerdfighter23‌ I know what you mean, it feels like I’ll never get to December 15th sometimes. Imagine being in the regular decision pool and having to wait until almost April

How did everyone do on the SAT? Scores are out! I’m wondering if it is worth it to send my 720 on literature to Vandy. I have already sent my Math 1: 740 and Chemistry: 780, I would only consider sending Lit because I took Math 1 instead of 2.

I got 630/730/700. Don’t know how to feel about that. First time taking.

I got Math: 770 CR: 730 WR: 800!

@CollegePanda96‌ that is a great score! congratulations!

So I have decided to just send Vandy both of my ACTs [31C: (29E/34M/33R/29S) 32C: (34E/30M/30R/32S)] as well as my SAT (630/730/700). Hopefully this will ensure they don’t see me as someone who just sucks at math, haha (considering I’m going into engineering/computer science).

@nerdfighter23 I took this whole week off work. Done with the supplemental essay, working on common app. I’m not too worried about them. I rushed my scores. Recs are done. Cutting it close but I’m confident in my ability to complete a solid app by the end of the week.

@bemore19‌ Wow, that’s awesome! I’m glad you were able to get it all worked out (:

Hey guys, I’m applying to the school of Engineering and I’m worried about sending my SAT ii scores. My best scores are a 750 on Math ii, 720 on Chem, and 700 in physics. Are any of them worth sending?

Check your percentile for each score, while over a 700 sounds good for the regular SAT, I know off the top of my head that a 700 in Chemistry is only better than 50% of those who took it (which is not very good for Vanderbilt). I don’t know the percentiles for the other tests though so you will have to check.

Is it bad to be on the bottom of the 25th-75th percentile? (My 32 ACT).
I am in the top 10% of my class (3.88 UW/4.20 W) which fits into Vandy’s profile but I’m scared they’ll overlook me because of my ACT. :(

@CollegePanda96‌ I don’t know what exactly they’ll think, but I’m worrying about the exact same thing with 2010 SAT. Only my math score is in “their range” O.o It’s probably the thing that scares me the most about the whole thing

Fellow Vandy hopeful here! I didn’t take the SAT at all, just the ACT. I got a 35 composite (cant remember the breakdown) but only a 6 on the writing. I spent a lot of time on my essay so hopefully I’m not a complete lost cause when it comes to writing.

@CollegePanda96‌ Vandy is a holistic admissions process, so they will never throw out an application simply due to SAT or ACT scores. When I visited they were very clear that they value GPA and classes over the standardized tests so I wouldn’t worry about it. The SAT scores are just ranges, some people test well others don’t. You really can’t control it so don’t worry.
