@Living61 @Ochillith If you didn’t get in, it’s called they didn’t want you. You’re not entitled to an acceptance.
No no @ab2002 I perfectly understand I’m not entitled to anything. However, I certainly have the clearance to question an account with one post when they claim they were accepted at one of the most prestigious universities in the country with a 3.59 W GPA.
@Ochillith Their child was accepted, not them. Not everything is about your stats, anyone can get good stats by applying themselves.
@Ochillith @ab2002 look you are both right. The fact is that at these highly selective schools a kid from North Dakota with a lower gpa and act will get admitted over a kid with higher Gpa and Act from a North eastern suburban student. That is the reality of the current college acceptance system.
The elite schools are looking to fill diversity by stats, economic class, race etc and are willing to take slightly lesser stats if need be.
Vandy no longer has a problem filling a class with the requisite desirable diversity. Not with 30 thousand applicants, most of whom are qualified and fully within their target stats. When my eldest applied in 2005, there were 11 thousand applicants and Vandy was still one of his Reach schools. While rejections are not really personal-- since we all know that Vandy’s waitlist and reject list is full of students getting full rides to flagship colleges, entry into Ivies and other selective colleges–acceptances are personal! The adcom committee really liked the application of Maple Sugar’s son. They know what they are doing. The Engineering school at Vandy is no piece of cake and they felt this student would make it there. There are a ton of promising future adults who struggled as high school freshmen, had an illness or a family disruption and damaged their GPAs. What is fun about attending college, is watching your peers coming into their competencies and their talents. Get good at congratulating everyone and really meaning it. There is a whole new starting line in August wherever you begin.
MapleSugar, when I see my son’s high school now, I send up a prayer of thanks for a teacher I knew zip about who wrote a critical letter of reference for my Vandy son. how our teachers find time to craft these letters that can mean so much is beautiful.
Congrats to those who got in, and sorry for those that didn’t, but don’t take it personally - as others have said, most all of you “have the numbers”, so beyond that it is about the mix they are looking for, and telling your story. You will get in somewhere that will be a great fit! - for those Texans accepted, we are in Austin and my son is a Freshman 2021 - feel free to message me for any questions! Anchor Down!
Hey guys I have applied to Vanderbilt regular decision. I hope I get in. Best wishes to you all.
Any Ghanaian or African here?
Best of luck to you, @Naruto222! This was a pretty small grouping of people and I think most were US students but I know my D said there were definitely some international students accepted ED. I will ask if any Africans were on the list they compiled.
@amominaz thank you! Have you applied already?
My daughter did, @Naruto222. She applied and was accepted early decision.
Please is a citizen of the USA? And what was her score?
Congratulations to her.
She is a citizen. She had a 3.96 unweighted GPA/4.8 weighted and a 1560 SAT
@guevarajuice Hi I have similar stats to you and applied ED2. Would you mind telling me if you had any hooks that helped you with your admission? Thanks!
