Vanderbilt ED1 Discussion Thread Class of 2021

Aw. Disappointed but at least we pretty much know now

I feel like they would say that regardless because they cant promise early and deliver late you know? Idk i am holding out hope.

Shoot, they must have had so many apps…

Keep hope of an early release. It’s happened for several years in a row. I’m sure people answering the phones have been told to say the 15th regardless. You wouldn’t expect them to disclose information to someone calling that they haven’t yet publicly posted on the blog. Just my opinion though.

These poor admissions people! Imagine how stressed they’d be after reading this blog!

My guidance counselor sent an email to an old Vandy admissions woman who is a college counselor at a local school . She said it will most likely be Wednesday

Does anybody know how we’ll be notified? Will it just say “admitted” or “not admitted” in the VU portal?

@crunchynut I believe they send an email the day before or earlier in the day with a link to your portal page with your decision on it. It’ll either start with “Congratulations…” or “We regret to inform you…”

So my dad called the admissions office and the girl on the phone said they’re planning to release decisions on Thursday, because the counselors have had a super busy application season and have been traveling a lot. Apparently the admissions counselors have been running around like crazy trying to get through all the applications.

@sdgirl9917 ah noooo that sucks but I understand why

Ahhh I can’t take this anymore! I have my AP physics C and AP calc BC midterms tomorrow! I can’t study and my stomach is in knots!

i still have faith the decisions will come out before the 15th! the admission officers never announce an earlier date until it’s official

yeah! if you call they are always gonna say the 15th! the first place we will hear news is on the blog so calling is pointless because they’re just going to say the 15th until something is posted on the blog!

okay so obviously since I have nothing better to do than obsess over Vandy and admissions and CC blah blah blah I went back into last year’s discussion for ED1 and organized anyone who posted their stats along with their admissions results (keep in mind this is only an extremely small portion of applicants). I know I’m crazy but i needed something to pass some time so here it is:

Hi! I’m new here
this is making me crazy nervous! D:
my GPA is a little on the low side (3.7W, UW not sure, but not much difference, only taken 3 AP classes before my senior year)
, but I have a 33 on my ACT, and I think the EC’s I have are pretty good in terms of variety and depth
I can’t wait anymore dangit! this is awful…

I’m so bummed, all that time and work, everything I did. I honestly don’t understand. Average GPA, but full IB, amazing rec letters, internship at UC Berkeley, 33 ACT with 36 science, amazing EC’s, captain of tennis team and work 20 hours a week at a fine dining restaurant plus a billion other things. Amazing CoRPs interview. I don’t understand. This is stupid

There's nothing that I want more in life than to get into Vanderbilt on Friday. There hasn't been a single day in the past 2 years where I haven't thought about admissions day at Vanderbilt, it's my die hard dream school.

I also applied to Emory, Fordham, UC Berkeley and a state school as a safety, but I honestly don’t want to go anywhere other than Vandy. I have a relatively low GPA (3.994 W), but have literally everything else to get in. 33 composite ACT, right in the middle of their mid 50%, 36 Science, 33 reading, 33 english, 31 math, 10 writing. I wrote good essays, and I have have amazing EC’s, I work 20+ hours a week at a fine dining restaurant (one of the most acclaimed/expensive restaurants in my city), I’m an IT technician for an orthodox Jewish temple, (I’m also Jewish, which helps at Vandy), varsity captain for the tennis team, had a summer internship at UC Berkeley doing Bio-medical research and may be published in a paper on the results, am a tutor for a dyslexic middle schooler, have leadership roles in clubs and activities, and have amazing rec letters. My councilor has been the head of the guidance department at my school for 30 years (I go to a very diverse public highschool in a suburb where there are 7 councilors), and my councilor personally sends 15+ kids to Ivies every year, plus more to schools like Vanderbilt, Berkeley, Duke and so forth, and she said that I had 3 amazing rec letters, and one in particular was one of best rec letters she has read in her entire career. I had an outstanding alumni interview who said I was the most impressive kid she has ever interviewed, and so on. I also do the full IB diploma programme. Plus I met the admissions director for my state when she came and had a good conversation with her, and my councilor called the admissions office a few weeks ago just to express how much she thinks I should get in (schools like that know and respect her opinion because of her long track record). There are a few other things, but overall I want to think that I am very qualified to get in… except for my GPA. It’s below a 4.0 weighted. I’ve had extenuating circumstances and also learning disabilities which my councilor talked about in the rec letter, but at the end of the day, the main thing they look at is GPA and mine doesn’t even begin to compete, some people on here have a 3.8 or 3.9 unweighted. Can you guys chance me, realistically. The suspense is killing me, but I need to know, do I even have a chance with that GPA?

Waffledancerxox

. My ACT score is only a 31...hopefully my GPA, rank, and EC's will counterbalance my low score.

I have a 4.0 UW GPA, but there are so many things they take into account that it may not

korimeck
My UW GPA is 3.8 and I think my UW is at least 4.2, probably more like 4.3. 33 ACT

ACCEPTED

I got accepted with a 33 ACT (international with green card)

Not much extra curriculars but i was captain of the tennis team which was my leadership position.
But i might get my application rescinded because i got a C+in ap calc ab for first semester senior year… i had three As and two B+s too…
Do you think my ED admission wilm be rescinded?

Dolphindancer37
Accepted!! 33 ACT, 4.3 W GPA, pretty good EC’s. Excited to meet you all in the fall - what are y’all’s steps moving forward? Not really sure what to do next…we can’t apply for housing until April… someone needs to add me to the FB page!

My S just got in!!! We are ecstatic! He had 3.4 (I previously said 3.6…oops), and a 32 ACT. He had great essays, we visited in the summer and I’m sure his recs were awesome. He also applied for Ingram and CV which I’m sure demonstrated interest. Good luck to all!

Accepted and absolutely thrilled!! (2330 superscored SAT, 4.7 weighted GPA for reference). Congratulations to my future classmates, and for the rest of y’all, you’re one step closer to ending up exactly where you’re supposed to be.

Guacamole629
I got in!!! Only had a 31 on my ACT, so I was shocked…

Somewheresmiling
I got in with 31 ACT. 16 writing. 4.0 W GPA. Tons of extracurricular and 3 APs. You’ll be fine if that essay is good.

^ scary stuff

Wow I can’t believe that one kid who raised so much money and got a giant grant for rejected! That’s a bit worrying @-)

Yikes

@jamesb24 Nashville is nicknamed “The Protestant Vatican”. You can’t drive down a single main road in Middle TN without passing a couple churches.

IK!!! That one rly got to me. Some of them were surprising. I guess it just reinforces that anything can happen.

The first rejection case scares me.

However, I don’t think Vandy puts a ton of weight on ECs. My guidance counsellors said that when they visited over the summer, the admissions officer flat out said “we are looking for GPA and test scores.” I think they’re interested in ECs, but I don’t think they can make up for poor GPA
