Hi, as a prospective engineering major, I was wondering if Vanderbilt is any good for engineering. I am asking this because I am thinking about applying ED bc I like the school, but want to ensure I am in a good program. (More specifically BME) is this program well regarded among higher level graduate schools for engineering (MIT, Stanford, Cal) or am I better off not applying ED there.
The rankings do not show Vanderbilt very high in the rankings, (i know rankings are not the best representation of true rankings but Vanderbilt is nowhere near the top)
Will I get anything out of going to Vanderbilt compared to Michigan or Northwestern?
thanks
Are they ABET accredited?
yes this program and all other disciples of engineering at Vanderbilt are ABET accredited @“Erin’s Dad”
vanderbilt’s engineering is not the strongest. michigan is actually very strong and if you are a michigan resident, definitely go to michigan but vanderbilt does have a nice environment. everyone is so friendly.
I had the same concern regarding Computer Science. That is why I did not apply ED.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXp2Pu85NFk Vanderbilt is doing amazing things with their commitment to engineering on campus. There is a lot to say about getting an engineering degree on many campuses, especially campuses with well-regarded engineering programs like Michigan. However, Vanderbilt as an undergraduate program at mid-sized top regional university system with successful graduate schools on grounds and a great host city provides an overall campus experience with unique strengths. Factor it all in when April comes and weigh what is special at Vanderbilt into the equation when your options are before you.
@Faline2
That looks great. Vandy is at #2 on my list, after Brown at #1. That is, of course, if I get accepted. UT Dallas is at #3 and U Alabama at #4. Accepted at both.
Thanks for the link.
What exactly do you mean when you say "amazing" things? Just curious.
Don’t know about other engineering majors, but for Computer Science, it does not make a BIG difference where one goes to school, especially at undergraduate level.
Vanderbilt has a great endowment and an excellent Chancellor and Board of Trustees. The town gown dynamic rocks. The construction of the new engineering building is a sign of the Board’s view of the importance of engineering in a 21st century university system of the caliber of Vanderbilt. While this new chapter in engineering at Vandy will not catapult Vandy to the top of ranked engineering schools, it is a game-changer commitment to engineering in the history of Vanderbilt. It is my understanding that the engineering classes are “tight” and supportive within the context of getting a broader education at a top university where every student is an honors student when they step foot on campus but everyone is following different dreams. Perhaps Vanderbilt offers the community of scholars in different sub-schools on a traditional, homey campus that some students seeking an undergrad engineering degree prefer. Or perhaps Vandy offers amazing financial aid with no loans that some students can access to make Vandy a reasonable financial choice. Good luck shaking out your next move.
@Faline2 Thank you for that.
