Can anyone who’s transferred speak to their experience a bit? Hoping to participate in Greek life, study Communications and do a couple of ECs.
Any insight helps
@user0523 My eldest likes it so much, my 2nd daughter is going to Vanderbilt too. If you have any other questions after you read the below, feel free to ask or use the CC email system.
Someone else asked if there was a stigma towards transfers at Vanderbilt.
I am reposting my post on page 45 of the Vanderbilt Fall 2019 Transfer Thread.
"Good question. Stigma? To the contrary.
My daughter couldn’t believe how accepting everyone was. By the 2nd semester she was a TA in a class she had 1st semester, was already an officer in a club, was playing sports in a sorority (her top 3 sororities offered bids, so they had no transfer issues), and was continuing with similar community service to her previous university.
She spent that Maymester on a course in London taught by her favorite professor. By her 2nd year, she was accepted to her top 2 study-abroads, but decided to stay at Vanderbilt, because she was having so much fun, is determined to live overseas some day, and didn’t want to miss any Vanderbilt courses.
Three weeks later, the head coach of a Vandy SEC sport watched her play and asked her to come to practice. Three practices later they handed her all this Vanderbilt swag and welcomed her to the team. The next thing you know she was flying on chartered flights and getting real minutes playing Kentucky, Alabama, Florida, etc…
She is living in the brand new, awesome dorm with 3 non-transfer, non-athletes that are great friends. She’ll graduate on-time with a Major in Economics, a Minor in Psychology and a Minor in Business. She told me she is only upset that she has to graduate in 2020."
@bloomfield88: There’s always grad school !
@Publisher Ha! She’ll have two years of Division I eligibility for basketball at graduation too, so I am waiting for that topic to dawn on her.
Her Plan A has been to work approximately 5 years and try for a Magnificent Seven MBA.
My D transferred to Vandy sophomore year. She was not interested in Greek life, but she did know other transfers who rushed and got bids. D was a bit on the shy side, but she found her niche. She held leadership positions in Habitat for Humanity and Music Group, and she had a radio show (they used to have an on-air radio station - I think it’s just online now). Above all, she got an amazing education.
